Internship at the Power Trading Department at Vattenfall Amsterdam

Within the Trading department at Vattenfall, the Automated Trading desk will be glad to accommodate an intern for a period of 3 months. You can start on short notice if that fits your schedule.

The Automated Trading desk team consists of 3 highly qualified people.


Your role as Intern Power Trading

As part of the team, the intern will be involved in the full cycle of trading strategy development.

You will be working on:

· The idea of strategy, data preparation, structuring and validation, coding the basic logics.
· Parameters search and optimization.
· Back testing and performance analysis of strategy, including the risk analysis.
· Acceptance testing of the strategy logic and execution logic.
· The implementation of strategy in the real life trading.
· Documenting the strategy description, test results, historical and real life trading performance.

The strategy we are aiming to develop is combi-strategy for the German power market and will combine:

· Basic fundamental analysis.
· Technical indicators.
· Event driven process.

Your profile as Intern Power Trading

Our Intern has a passion for the energy market, is interested in working in energy trading, asset optimization and like to be challenged by complex topics and analyses. You like to work in an ambitious team, like to do sparring but you are also able to work individually. Above all you are willing to learn. We also require:

·  Living and studying in the Netherlands.
· Fluent in English and preferably Dutch.
· A relevant quantitative Masters discipline, such as econometrics, mathematics, physics, finance or similar.
· Knowledge of Excel and VBA a must.
· Enthusiastic, willing to work and learn, and been goal oriented.
· Analytical mind set.

Vattenfall offers a fixed compensation of 500 euros per month.

Markets is the Business Area where all asset optimisation and trading activities are centralized for the Vattenfall Group. Our activities are multi-site located across Europe with almost 700 professionals working in Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, and Poland. We trade the full range of energy commodities such as electricity, gas, oil, coal, freight, renewable energies and emissions, take responsibility for a diversified sourcing of power, fuels and carbon credits and optimize the running and hedging of Vattenfall's generation assets. Within Markets the Business Unit (BU) Trading is the energy trading hub of the Vattenfall Group and provides all market access service activities to the group, including the sourcing of physical coal, oil and gas. BU Trading also maximizes the value creation in energy commodity markets by employing a specific proprietary trading mandate.
