Job Description A highly technical professional position responsible for supporting the NIBR-Cambridge discovery research program by providing the highest standard of humane treatment and clinical care of all animals housed within our decentralized, multi-species, multi-discipline, AAALAC International accredited research program. •60% allocated for conduct of daily clinical rounds, triage and execution of treatment plans for established clinical cases. oIncludes coordinating & communicating treatment plans with appropriate LAS and/or scientific staff. •10% allocated for assisting in the management & conduct of the NIBR-Cambridge Pathogen Surveillance Program. oIncludes coordinating & collecting sentinel sample time points. •10% allocated to assisting in the management & conduct of the NIBR-Cambridge Animal Import & Export Program. oIncludes coordinating & completing health exams. •5% allocated for ensuring compliance with all institutional and regulatory protocols, policies, and guidelines. •5% allocated for identifying emerging technical & clinical procedures to proactively evolve the LAS Veterinary Service and reflect current trends in veterinary practice. •5% allocated for pursing internal/external continuing education and/or professional development opportunities and enhancing/expanding skill set. •5% allocated for drafting & periodic review of LAS Operational, Technical & Veterinary-related SOPs and other service-related program documents. •Performs other LAS technical or operational duties as required/requested. •Provide consistent and high quality veterinary clinical care •Provide consistent and high quality management & execution of the LAS Animal Import & Export Program as well as the Pathogen Surveillance Program •Proactively meet and exceed customer service expectations •Continuously pursue educational and professional development opportunities to enhance and expand relevant skills and knowledge •Identify emerging techniques to reflect current trends in veterinary medical practice •Ensure complete & proper maintenance of all veterinary medical records to ensure compliance with all in-house, local, state, federal, and voluntary regulatory compliance & accrediting agencies •Identify inefficiencies and/or bureaucracy and provide recommendations or suggestions to streamline processes Number of associates: •No direct reports Financial responsibility:(Budget, Cost, Sales, etc.) •No financial responsibility Impact on the organization: •Provide consistent and high quality veterinary care as well as support the LAS Import & Export Program and Pathogen Surveillance Program to ensure collaborative support is provided to NIBR-Cambridge in vivo research community EEO Statement The Novartis Group of Companies are Equal Opportunity Employers and take pride in maintaining a diverse environment. Desired profile
Education: •2-year degree in Veterinary Sciences or related animal management field, 4-year Science degree, or an equivalent amount of prior animal experience required. •Thorough comprehension of facts, techniques, nomenclature, equipment, and theories of veterinary sciences as they relate specifically to job performance and function in the laboratory animal research environment. •Commitment to Continuing Education in the laboratory animal or veterinary sciences •Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or other applicable certification (AALAS- ALAT, LAT, or LATg) preferred. Languages: •English required- Strong written and verbal skills. Experience: •Minimum of 1-3 years (ASSOCIATE I), 3-5+ years (ASSOCIATE II) of experience in a private, academic, or governmental clinical veterinary practice setting or laboratory animal program required. •Prior knowledge and/or work experience with rodents in veterinary or vivarium operational (husbandry/animal facility management) setting highly desirable. •Prior experience in technical or applied research involving laboratory animals highly desirable. •Prior experience in animal emergency response and triage highly desirable. The qualified candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, a focused commitment to providing humane, high quality, and consistent veterinary medical care in accordance with all regulations pertaining to Laboratory Animal Care and Use. Candidate must be reliable, independent, able to work well in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment, and demonstrate a focus to attention to detail in providing high quality and consistent results in the execution of all duties relating to the veterinary services. The ideal candidate must also be willing to demonstrate flexibility in work schedules (i.e. coverage over weekends, overnights, holidays, and/or inclement weather or other emergency situations) by sharing responsibilities with other LAS staff to ensure 24-hour, 7-day per week emergency & clinical veterinary care are continually provided. .
