Novartis is currently recruiting for a Storage Backup Engineer to join our international team to work on developing and maintaining the TSM backup environment.
Job Purpose:
The purpose of the Storage Backup Engineer role is to be responsible for maintaining and administering the performance, integrity and security of the TSM infrastructure environment. Storage Backup Engineer is expected to conduct system analysis and development to keep our systems current with changing technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
• Installs new TSM releases, storage backup hardware upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves any backup software & hardware related problems.
• Monitors backup environment and including tape libraries, VTL, TSM Master and SAN Media servers configurations to ensure optimal performance and capacity levels are sufficient.
• Performs setup of backups for clients, special backup requests, copy functions, vaulting and inventory processes.
• Support a enterprise class data protection environment, including performing configuration and administration of the backup environment.
• Setup backup jobs, perform restores on request, trouble shoot backup performance issues and failed back ups.
• Perform D/R planning, configuration and testing using TSM.

Desired profile
Minimum requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
• A university degree BS/BA in Computer or Life Sciences
• A solid understanding of IT change and configuration management, ITIL certification is a plus
• Superior written, verbal and presentation skills in English
• Facilitation, negotiation, and problem resolution skills
• Exposure to additional languages/cultures is a plus
• Must have a knowledge of TSM Backup tool and tape libraries, including VTL´s (DataDomain) Strong
• Unix, Wintel administration & scripting background
• Experience with spilt mirror backups such as Timefinder, Business Copy Manager and Flashcopy including remote data replication Indepth troubleshooting skills to support backup environment
