We seek a highly motivated Scientific Associate to join the Autoimmunity, Transplantation & Inflammation Department within the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research in Basel, Switzerland. You will generate data that increases our biological understanding of immunologically relevant targets assisting in the elucidation of the mechanism of action at the molecular, cellular and more complex ex vivo/in vivo level. You will be responsible for independent planning, execution and documentation of experiments as well as efficiently managing and maintaining a functional laboratory, technical equipment and tools, as required for best practice and in-line with Health Safety and Environment guidelines.
Independently performing experiments and procedures requiring specific scientific and technical knowledge of a broad spectrum of histological techniques (incl. necropsies, frozen and paraffin sections, ICC/IHC/IF/ISH, image analysis) Implementation of new histological techniques according to the literature and customer needs Design of new experiments Data analysis and documentation of experiments in lab notebook (protocols, graphs, statistics, data summaries etc.) Presentation of the results to the supervisor and/or at lab/project meetings Work in collaboration with other team members and labs
Desired profile
Minimum requirements
- BSc/MSc (or equivalent qualification) in biological sciences (preferably in Biology/Pharmacology, Cell Biology or Immunology); np PhD
- Fluency in English; German is an advantage
- Few years of experience and extensive knowledge in histology such as processing, cutting and staining of tissue sections incl. plastic, paraffin and frozen sections, special stainings, immunohistochemistry/ immunofluorescence incl. confocal microscopy with special emphasis on image analysis
- Knowledge of a variety of molecular and cellular biology methods (e.g. RNA isolation, qPCR, FACS)
- Independent execution and interpretation of experiments Excellent communication and presentation skills Track record of working in a diverse and multidisciplinary team environment Well-organized, shows initiative, commitment, and flexibility
