The Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (MAP) group within the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research is looking for a highly motivated and qualified Lab Technician to be part of a team that applies preclinical models to determine the PK and metabolic fate of our mid-to-late stage discovery candidates. This information will be used in order to select lead molecules, optimize clinical candidates, and facilitate clinical development.
You are going to be responsible for the planning, design and carrying out of in vivo experiments to obtain pharmacokinetic results in rats and mice.
Main responsibilities include:
- Conducts high-quality routine PK studies in rodents independently (collection of tissues and body fluids at pre-defined time points after drug administration).
- Executes basic surgery in rodents including anesthesia and analgesia.
- Able to maintain an in vivo experimental laboratory, including selection of equipment, cleaning, handling of waste (incl. biowaste), house- and book-keeping.
- Complies strictly with Swiss and Novartis-specific Animal Welfare Regulations, SOPs, HSE rules as well as adopts and applies 3R rules to daily business.
- Responsible for reporting: documentation of work and in vivo observations in ERA; is able to understand own experimental protocols and their significance with respect to the question to be answered by the in vivo study. Supports coworkers with complete documentation to allow correct annual reporting of experiments to Swiss authorities.

Desired profile
- Completed education as Laboratory Technician in Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline (or alternative professional work experience in a relevant scientific field)
- Good technical expertise in working with common laboratory species (>1 year)
- LTK1 course, Felasa Cat. B or equivalent
- Good skills in animal handling, anesthesia, surgical techniques in rodents, a high level of proficiency in various rodent dosing techniques, the formulation of compounds for administration to animals and the preparation of biological fluids and tissue samples for further analysis. This involves also the ability to record and document experimental details with a high level of integrity, ethics and accuracy.
- Good knowledge of MS Office Tools

- Fluency in English and German; additional French language skills advantageous
