Job Description

As a member of the Biotransformation group you will be responsible for investigating metabolism pathways and explaining metabolite structures formed in vitro and in vivo (animal and human) after different routes of administration in blood, excreta and tissue for Novartis discovery and development compounds. You will develop analytical methodologies for metabolite profiling and elucidate metabolite structures by HPLC coupled with online/off line detection and mass spectrometry. You will plan and execute tailored experiments, maintain the laboratory environment/instruments, and support the development of new technologies. You will ultimately have to support our outsourcing efforts and the reporting of biotransformation results.

Desired profile

Minimum requirements

Minimum requirements: Degree in Analytical Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline (BS/MS/PhD ) with experience in Biotransformation in an industry setting. Excellent (hands-on) experience with LC-mass spectrometry and metabolite profiling and metabolite structure elucidation. Good understanding of drug metabolism in in vitro and in vivo models. Good attention to detail, an analytical investigative and questioning nature, with an innovative solution-oriented approach. A sharp and objective intellect, experienced in balancing big picture thinking with an investigative nature, drilling into detail as appropriate. Well-developed interpersonal skills with good presence; experienced presenter and communicator. A self-starter and decision taker; open, confident and persuasive, succeeding through influence. Good planning, prioritization, problem solving and organizational skills. Resilient, energetic and enthusiastic; responding constructively to challenging new ideas and inputs. Team player, ability to be flexible and adapt to a changing environment. Good knowledge of English language. Excellent scientific writing skills. Track record for peer-reviewed publications. Good IT/software skills particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
