The Global Discovery Chemistry (GDC) group at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) in Basel, Switzerland, is looking for a Scientist with a strong scientific background in the field of organic chemistry to actively contribute to Novartis’ target and drug discovery objectives. Start your career in GDC and closely work within multi-disciplinary project teams towards the discovery and development of novel therapies for different disease areas. Understanding the project related assays, you will critically analyze chemical and biological data on compounds in order to design new derivatives to address key issues in the projects
• Perform experimental work including the design and synthesis of target molecules
• Supervision and scientific leadership of chemistry associates including establishing work plans, monitoring progress, further education, training and development of team members
• Effectively collaborate with colleagues from other scientific disciplines including molecular modeling, structural biology, biophysics, biochemistry, in vitro / in vivo metabolism and pharmacokinetics, pharmacology and disease biology
• Provide leadership in all aspects of laboratory Health, Safety and Environmental protection
• Active participation in the internal and external scientific communities through patenting, presentations, publication and networking across the chemistry community
• Contribute to maintaining state of the art skills, facilities and infrastructure within Global Discovery Chemistry through the evaluation and implementation of new technologies, techniques, reactions and concepts
Desired profile
Minimum requirements
• PhD with Postdoctoral Fellowship completed
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, German desirable
• Exceptional knowledge of scientific field specialization
• Possess a thorough knowledge of the field, including the scientific background and literature
• Have bench experience with a proven, published track record
• Demonstrate expertise of a particular technology and proficiency with full range of techniques used in job and core areas
• Have considerable knowledge of technologies/concepts in a broader scientific field
• Be familiar with the computational aspects of the discipline/technology including data handling and interpretation
