Outsourcing and monitoring of radiosyntheses for Global Discovery Chemistry (GDC) and support GDC/imaging activities
Major accountabilities
• Outsourcing and monitoring of radiosyntheses for GDC with application of highly developed and specialized scientific knowledge
- Purification and analysis of product
- Management of radiolabeled samples and coordination with project teams and end customers
- Independently ensure efficient execution of outsourced activities, guaranteeing timely availability of radiotracers and study results to project teams
• Outsourcing of in vitro and potentially ex vivo autoradiographic studies, coordination with BMD and DMPK
• Engage in GDC/imaging research activities related to HPLC-MS/MS (development and independent execution of medicinal chemistry strategy activities in accordance with the project team goals agreed with the Project Team Head and project team)
- Coordinate the development of target occupancy assays with MAP for preclinical drug discovery projects and imaging tracer development
- Lead and coordinate activities related to LC-MS/MS and autoradiographic studies
- Independently develop synthesis and optimization of ligands for label-free receptor occupancy assays and imaging projects.
- Discover and validate profiling activities of tracer candidates and critically analyze resulting data and impact/action on projects.
• Evaluation and formulation of novel projects for imaging tracer or LC-MS/MS occupancy assay development
- Evaluate new projects and initiate exploratory activities
- Literature search and evaluation, initial project proposal for confirmation of feasibility
- Keep track of project-related scientific literature and competitive intelligence.
• Ensure adherence to Novartis global standards of quality, safety, integrity, productivity and innovation.
• Contribute to internal and external scientific reputation of project teams and GDC Basel, e.g. through active participation in scientific community, publishing and lecturing, presenting at internal and external meetings
• Leadership through coaching and mentoring to facilitate drug discovery solutions for projects and in the lab and impacting the project activities of other scientists and managers
The position aims for the internal Novartis level of Investigator III - this can adapt to an Investigator II subject to background and experience
Desired profile
Minimum requirements
• PhD Chemistry, or MSc Chemistry with profound equivalent experience
• Advanced English. Additional German advantageous
• In depth and broad knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry. Basic knowledge of radiochemistry
• Thorough understanding of medicinal chemistry principles with practical experience and demonstrated impact equivalent to PhD with two years or MSc and five years in a medicinal chemistry project
• Theoretical understanding of profiling assays, pharmacokinetics, drug discovery principles
• Overview of the Novartis research organization and roles of the various functions and platforms in the Novartis drug discovery process
• Strong, proactive and transparent communication, freely sharing results and openly discussing challenges
• Well organized, good listener with supportive, collaborative style
• Willing to work flexibly in a core team with multiple, changing partners
• Develops close interaction with all external partners and team members, including line functions beyond GDC
