We are seeking a Computational Chemist with a desire to productively apply in silico techniques in an industry setting.
Working in all phases of the discovery process, from lead identification through to lead optimization, you will apply a variety of computational chemistry techniques (including cheminformatics, QSAR, pharmacophore modelling, protein modelling and docking) to support drug discovery efforts in Dengue, Human African Trypanosomiasis, and Malaria research programs.
Other duties include:
• Selecting compounds for biological screening (eg via database mining, virtual screening).
• Evaluating hitlists from screens to select molecules for hit expansion and follow up.
• Working closely with medicinal chemists in hit to lead and lead optimization phases to design and prioritize new molecules for synthesis.
• Establishing strong links and scientific collaborations with other computational chemists within NIBR, the Novartis research organization.
• Supervising the work and the training of postdocs, research associates and students, when required.
• Maintaining up to date scientific knowledge in computational chemistry.
• Presenting scientific / technical work at internal and external meetings.

Desired profile
• PhD in Computational Chemistry or related field with at least 2 years of relevant postdoc or industry experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge in structure- and ligand-based drug design.
• Familiar with leading drug design software / database.
• Experience of programming / script language is highly desirable.
• Ability to work in a team with good communication, presentation and writing skills.
