Community Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Multiple Sclerosis – MO/KS/NE

This is a home office based position within the area of coverage (MO/KS/NE). Preferred area of residence is St. Louis. (tax location is MO)

The Community Medical Science Liaison (CMSL) will serve as a clinical liaison primarily to local non-Key Opinion Leader (KOL) Health Care Professionals (HCPs) within the assigned geography including non-traditional HCPs (e.g. nurse practitioners (NPs), nurses (RNs), physician assistants (PAs), etc.). Provide these HCPs with clinical and scientific education regarding Novartis' compounds in a timely, ethical and customer-focused manner. Be responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining relationships with designated HCPs within the geographic area of coverage. Implement clinical and educational strategies in collaboration with other Novartis colleagues for designated customers. Pair key customers' educational and research needs with available Novartis resources and provide data in response to specific HCP inquiries.

Major Activities:
• Develop professional relationships with local and non-KOL HCPs to ensure access to current medical and scientific information on Novartis products and areas of therapeutic interest as aligned with MS Medical Unit strategy.
• Upon unsolicited request for information, present data on Novartis products to HCPs
• Collaborate with other Novartis Medical Unit colleagues as needed in the region according to regional strategy set forth by the Regional Medical Lead (RML) and agreed upon by the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in the territory.
• Implement clinical trial tactics as outlined by RML and in collaboration with other field medical team members.
• Implement tactics around regional strategy as outlined by RML and in collaboration with other field medical team members.
• Support product launch activities and communication plans per Medical Unit strategy and tactical plans.
• Attend and support scientific and medical meetings. Maximize customer opportunities and internal customer engagement during medical congress meetings. Contribute to planned post-meeting deliverables.
• Capture and report customer insights to inform medical strategy.
• Participate in projects and/or special initiatives as specified by MS Medical Unit.
• Serve as a local medical resource for field CMSL colleague training. May also serve as an on-boarding and/or therapeutic training partner for other CMSLs.
• Manage administrative responsibilities, such as e-mail, voicemail and expense reports per Novartis SOPs.
• Conduct all business activities in accordance with corporate policy and state/federal law.
• Comply with all credentialing requirements for any healthcare institution (e.g., hospital) which is part of the MSL's call plan, including, among other things, routine background checks, medical testing (i.e., Tuberculosis test) or proof of immunizations, training on facility policies, and adherence to confidentiality and/or HIPPA agreements.

This position requires approximately 60% travel.

Desired profile

Position will be filled at level commensurate with experience.

• Bachelors and advanced clinical degree (Masters, PharmD, DNP, or Professional Clinical Certifications such as RN, PA) are required.
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in healthcare is required (i.e. nursing, pharmacy, physician assistant, MD, etc.).
• Direct patient care and MS clinical experience is highly desired.
• Minimum of 2 years of pharmaceutical experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a field medical role is advantageous.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills are required, including ability to effectively communicate medical data/concepts.
• Ability to network and partner with all types of HCPs, including nurses, PAs, pharmacists and physicians.
• Must be able to prioritize and work effectively in a constantly changing environment.
• Must have the ability to gain customer feedback, uncover business opportunities for Novartis and pair customer's unmet needs with available internal resources.
• Must be a strong team player and effectively interface with other internal departments.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and associated hardware is required.
• Teaching experience desirable.
• Active membership in professional society(ies) is a plus.
• Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine and knowledge of MS treatment is highly desirable.
• Thorough understanding of the FDA, OIG, HIPAA and other guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
• A valid US Driver's License and a good driving record are required.
• Ability to work from a home office and to travel (Field-based position associated with approximately 60% travel).
