Novartis is expanding its biologics capabilities. As part of this commitment, the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) and the global Biologics Center to enhance the growth of its biopharmaceutical pipeline. The NIBR Biologics Center (NBC) in Cambridge supports these activities by a dedicated antibody discovery and engineering group.

For this group we are seeking highly motivated and experienced research associates with strong technical backgrounds. Direct experience in phage display selections of antibodies, protein biochemistry (expression/purification/analytics) and DNA sequence analysis is required. Additional background with automation and characterization of antibody binding (e.g. Biacore, Fortebio) are highly desired. Scientific engagement and a commitment to teamwork are needed.

Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Selects functional antibodies using phage display technology.
• Utilizes automated technologies for processing samples (QPix, TECAN, iQue). Familiarity with associated software is highly desirable. Experience with ELISA and other protein binding assays required.
• Prepares DNA sequencing and analyzes sequence results.
• Constructs expression vectors for protein expression (e.g. E. coli, mammalian)
• Expresses, purifies and characterizes antibodies in biochemical and/or functional assays (e.g. affinity, activity).
• Operates research-scale protein purification systems, such as Akta Express, for affinity and size exclusion chromatography.
• Records and captures all necessary data for internal use and IND filings.

Desired profile

Minimum requirements

Qualified candidates should possess a MS degree in biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, or a related field, or a BS degree and at least 3 years of relevant laboratory experience. Familiarity with phage display and the selection and biochemical characterization of antibodies is required. Experience in protein binding assays, Biacore and automation is highly desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively in a team environment and to learn new techniques are essential. While previous industrial experience is preferred, it is not essential but a demonstrated record of accomplishment is essential.
