About Chemical & Analytical Development, work in a Chemical Development Unit:
The Chemical & Analytical Development (CHAD) serves the interests of Novartis through timely supply of synthetic active pharmaceutical ingredients for clinical and development needs, with responsible process and analytical R&D leading to successful regulatory approval, launch and commercialization. CHAD associates develop and utilize appropriate methodologies to manufacture and analyze bulk pharma chemicals in a safe, efficient, cost-effective, environmentally responsible, and GMP-compliant fashion and through application of expertise in chemistry, engineering and Technical Life Cycle Management.
One of three Chemical Development Units based on the Basel Campus is looking for an independent and motivated analytical technician with proven experience in current analytical technologies i.e. HPLC, GC, IR, titrations to join the Analytical Team. Good understanding of GMP, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a team environment are key for success in this position.
Description:
• You will be responsible for the correct development and execution of analytical tests aimed at release and retest of raw materials and chemical intermediates to be used in the manufacturing of drug substances for clinical development.
• You will document the data generated according to GMP principles.
• Under the guidance of the responsible Analytical Expert you will develop and optimize robust liquid- and gas- chromatography analytical methods aimed at the quantification and identification of by- and degradation products in raw materials, intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients.
• You will be responsible for setup and maintenance of the assigned laboratory infrastructure and equipment.
• You will work closely with analytical and process development chemists as well as scientists from a diverse range of disciplines within Chemical and Analytical Development.
Key Responsibilities
• Planning, organization, correct execution and documentation of the analytical tests under the guidance of an Analytical Expert.
• Development of robust analytical procedure, which can be successfully transferred to production.
• Maintenance of lab infrastructure and instruments.
• Working according to SOPs, GMP, GLP, QM, HSE, ISEC & Novartis Guidelines.
• Participation in Analytical Network activities.

Desired profile
Minimum requirements
• Completed training as technician in chemistry or chemistry related field with track records on current analytical methodologies. Alternatively, at least 3 years equivalent on-the-job industry experience in analytics environment using modern chromatography methods and technologies.
• Strong technical skills are required especially in the operation and maintenance of instrumentation and software.
• Additionally the candidate must have the ability to multitask, support several parallel projects, and communicate with analytical chemists and scientists at all stages of the project.
• Strong interpersonal skills are essential.
• Also desirable is basic understanding of GMP as well as experience in pharmaceutical development activities.
• Good command of English (spoken and written) required, German is of advantage
