•Provide daily husbandry care and research support to research animal colony in compliance with regulatory requirements.
•Meets the standards set forth for high quality veterinary and animal care and welfare according to regulatory guidelines (USDA, FDA, AAALACI) and established ARU procedures, policies and practices.
•Consistently and effectively applies veterinary care, animal welfare knowledge and skill base in providing quality care in areas of assigned responsibilities.
•Assess severity of reported abnormal animal health observations in order to determine necessity of consultation with veterinarian.
•Interprets veterinary assessment and diagnosis in order to follow direction in treatment regimen and drug dosage to include anesthesia and analgesia to assist in research support activities.
•Assists in animal colony preventative health care program to provide top quality animal study models.
•Collects and record animal health records in compliance with all regulatory agencies, (i.e., USDA, FDA, AAALACI).
•Remains actively involved in every level of responsibility in cross function role to provide optimal study and training support, inclusive of communicating with investigators, providing pre, intra, and post procedural care, performing animal care procedures according to study design and accurate performance and documentation of related procedures.
•Maintains and administers controlled substances to all animal species in compliance with all regulatory agencies, (i.e. DEA, USDA, FDA, AAALACI, TVMA).
•Under the direction of a licensed veterinarian, provide anesthesia and analgesia to animals during surgery or during study activities inclusive of monitoring animals while under general anesthesia.
•Provides provide tissue procurement and collection of body fluids such as blood and urine according to study protocol, (i.e.-Pharmacokenetic studies and animal health monitoring program).
•Performs cross function role efficiently and effectively to maximize scheduling effectiveness between ARRS functions.
•Prioritizes, organizes, and cooperatively communicates assigned activities to effect streamlined activities and benefit veterinary and animal care team productivity.
•Continuously enhances expertise, skill base and animal welfare knowledge which contribute to team level of competence.

Desired profile

•High School Diploma or Equivalent
•English
•1 year directly related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in specific knowledge or technical skills.
•Associates Degree as a Registered or Licensed Veterinary Technician and 1 year veterinary health care or animal facility experience OR; High School Diploma plus 3-5 years of veterinary health care or animal facility experience.
•LAT Certification must be achieved within the first twelve months of position OR 3) High School Diploma plus LAT certification plus 2 years animal facility experience
