Designated Detention Officer - Hereford
Summary: Multiple Permanent position based with West Mercia and Warwickshire Police Service. We are seeking candidates who ideally will have previous Security, Police, or similar background and experience. These backgrounds are not essential but would be beneficial. The roles are high priority positions with immediate interview dates.
Role:
The Designated Detention Officer (DDO) is responsible for working within a secure Custody environment, to ensure the lawful, safe and secure detention of persons and their property whilst they are held in police custody. The DDO will be responsible for the safe and secure detention of person in custody, maintaining a professional and impartial approach to safer detention.
Candidate Requirements:
- The ability to take responsibility for your own actions
- Ability to adhere to and follow all lawful guidance and directions of the custody officer
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team, helping and supporting others to perform
- Remain alert to changing circumstances, able to prioritise, displaying initiative and sound judgment.
- Possesses excellent communication skills with the ability to listen, and converse effectively with all members of the community.
- Ability to deal with hostile, threatening and violent situations.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging circumstances.
- Pay attention to detail.
- Ability to keep accurate written and computer based records.
- Ability to carry out administrative duties when required
- Prepared to be flexible and to work anywhere within the relevant police force area.
- Present a professional image at all times, taking responsibility for own continuing professional development.
Tasks / Role Requirements:
- The tasks for the roles breaks down into three areas: (a) Exercising Relevant Powers, (b) Conducting Relevant Process and (c) Conducting Relevant Tasks.

Education/Experience:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to take initiative to proactively resolve issues or problems
- Strong level of English, both spoken and written
- Hold a full valid UK or European Driving Licence
