Nissan's Decherd, TN manufacturing plant is located approximately 85 miles southeast of Nashville, TN and 65 miles west of Chattanooga, TN along Interstate 24. The Powertrain Assembly plant is 1.1 million square feet and has an annual production capacity over 1 million engines. Nissan-Decherd's engine assembly plant produces engines for the Nissan Altima, Maxima, Rogue, Frontier, Titan, Armada, Quest, Pathfinder, as well as several Infiniti vehicles. In addition to engine assembly, Nissan –Decherd also assembles the electric motor for the LEAF, Nissan's 100% electric vehicle. Other production at Nissan-Decherd include: Cylinder Block Machining, Cylinder Head Machining, Crankshaft Machining, Crankshaft Forging, and Cylinder Block Hi-pressure Die Casting.
Nissan is currently seeking a dynamic individual to fill an opening for a Tooling Engineer in the Decherd, TN powertrain manufacturing facility for new projects and programs.
Job Description:
Designing and developing production tooling for block, head, and crank machining. Reviewing design spec sheets and coordinate with other project engineers to develop detail tool plans. Traveling to tooling vendors for onsite follow-up and tool tryouts. Overseeing pre-production Engineering changes. Creating monthly tool progress reports and maintaining process sheets for new model development (stage control). Staying current on state of the art tooling and machining processes. Defining manufacturing methodology with design, manufacturing, and current model process engineers. Technical support for block, head, and crank project engineers. Continuous improvement of the process and tooling. Working with manufacturing and tooling department to communize tooling. Mistake proofing to prevent poor quality. Work with current model engineering as well as manufacturing to solve current problems and implement changes for new model development. Coordinate meetings with both local and foreign entities for tooling development. Knowledge and ability to setup and run CNC equipment for tooling trials. Design and creation of tool holding fixtures. Procurement of raw and consumable tools. Manage inventory of new tools and coordinate stock with current model engineering.
Requirements and Proficiencies include :
· B.S. degree in Engineering from an accredited institution (prefer Mechanical, Industrial Technology, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent). Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of degree
· Minimum of 3-5 years of experience related to engineering or maintenance, preferably in a high-volume CNC manufacturing/machining environment
· Motivation to respond to a fast paced assembly process
· Advanced data driven problem solving skills
· Microsoft Office Suite especially Microsoft Project, AutoCAD knowledge / familiarity. PLC programming and modification
· Project management experience-from scope of work creation through successful project completion. Thorough understanding of mechanical/electrical fundamentals and integration
Additional preferred experience:
CNC Programming experience; CNC machining of aluminum and steel components with preference given to machining of cylinder blocks; heads, and crankshafts in a high volume environment; tooling design and coordination; CAD/CAM; 5S/Six Sigma/V-Up experience; Knowledge / experience with robotics; In-depth understanding of manufacturing methods, tool and gage design, and machines/processes
