Job description
Position Title
Environmental Engineer
Mission and Main Objectives
Manage all aspects of environmental management system (EMS) within the motor vehicle plant including legislation compliance, Nissan global mid-term plan, liaison with regulators and industry representatives.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
• Responsible for all aspects of EMS including:
o System development
o Procedures (writing and maintenance)
o Monitoring of compliance
o Development and implementation of internal audit schedule
o Delivering staff training and awareness
o Shop Environmental Group coordination
o Setting and monitoring environmental objectives and targets
o Reports to Senior Management
• Management of emissions monitoring contract
• Liaison with Regulators (Sunderland city Council and Environment Agency)
• Assessment of legal compliance
• Coordination of legal permits and development of strategy for compliance with new and pending requirements from legislation, external bodies and EMS
• Provision of compliance advice to NMUK departments and Engineering sections
• Processing emissions trading data for EU-ETS and CCA
• Represent Nissan Group with external bodies (SMMT, ACEA) Host external audits from (VCA, NML)

Background & Experience
• Environmental Science or Environmental Management qualified (Degree level or equivalent)
• Environmental management experience preferred
• Understanding of air, water and waste pollution impacts and control techniques
• Knowledge of legislation and ISO 14001 implementation
• Ability to liaise with environmental regulators
• Good data analysis skills
• Good communication and report writing skills
