Over the last 5 years, the 600-staff NRC has published around 1000 scientific publications in peer review journals and files about 80 patents every year. The NRC also has around 100 research collaborations with universities or research institutes around the world.

The NRC is organized with three large research institutes for Nutritional Science , Materials Science and Food Safety & Analytical Science . These major Institutes are complemented by Research Units focusing on Clinical Development, PetCare. The NRC plays an important role in providing the science behind healthier products, and how food impacts on the host (learn more about the NRC at www.research.nestle.com).

Lausanne is home to the 2 strongholds of Nestlé's fundamental research: the Nestlé Research Center (NRC) and the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) that investigate the complex interactions between nutrition, health and wellness.

We are currently looking for a Scientist in Human Microbiome to complete the expertise in Host-Microbe Interaction group within the Gut Ecosystem Department, which is a part of the Institute of Nutritional Science at the NRC.

Demonstrating strong scientific insight and analytical skills , as a Microbiome Specialist, your main responsibilities will be to integrate microbiota research activities in the transversal research strategy of Gut Ecosystem Department. You will have to identify new venues of research linking the microbiome to health and nutrition, in collaboration with external and internal stakeholders while ensuring impactful translation for product application.

Key responsibilities

· Generate, analyze and interpret microbiota and omics data sets to investigate human host – microbe interactions
· Communicate and publish results internally and externally
· Develop nutritional concepts to promote health via modulation of human microbiota
· Maintain awareness of microbiome literature, emerging analytical and data integration approaches
· Develop collaboration networks inside and outside Nestlé
· Provide scientific support to business as microbiota expert
· Lead and coach technicians and/or students

Education and experience

· PhD in microbiology, microbial ecology, microbiome bioinformatics or related field
· At least 3 years post-doctoral experience, including hands-on experience in microbiota analysis, biological interpretation and data integration
· Bioinformatics scripting skills and experience using Python and R in UNIX/Linux environment is considered a strong advantage
· Experience with clinical trials is considered an asset
· Fluent in both written and spoken English
