The Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) has recently been established to deliver world class excellence in biomedical research to better understand health and disease as influenced by genetics, metabolism and environment with the goal of translating this knowledge into personalized science-based nutrition.

The Institute combines latest technologies and biomedical knowledge to study the molecular mechanisms of chronic disease. Large-scale omics capabilities including genomics, proteomics, lipidomics and metabolomics are integrated with bioinformatics and systems biology to generate holistic molecular insights into nutritionally actionable conditions. Using this integrated approach we are developing nutritional approaches to prevent disease and facilitate healthy aging.

Demonstrating excellent organizing skills and strong autonomy, you will be responsible for registration, handling and storage biological samples with an automated sample management system. In this role you will be collaborating in a challenging scientific environment and will be providing support to various stakeholders from the institute.

Key responsibilities

· Register, handle and store all biological samples (plasma, DNA and RNA, currently app. 70.000 samples) manually or with robot
· Prepare samples requested from different NIHS core laboratories for further use according to pre-established SOP's
· Handle all informatics aspects of sample registration and storage (validation of sample sheets, entering sample information in laboratory information management system)
· Manipulate the automated sample stores and other laboratory robotics equipment

Education and experience

· Technical diploma in biology/biotechnology (CFC, BTS or bachelor) or related natural sciences
· Minimum 1 year of working experience in high-throughput environment as a laboratory technician working with large-scale human samples analysis (ideally in biobanking)
· Preferable hands-on experience in the manipulation and cryopreservation of samples (ie. DNA/RNA, Plasma/Serum, Cells.
· Basic understanding of LIMS and databases; knowledge of automated liquid handling/dispensing systems, sample aliquoting systems or robotics a plus.
· Fluency in English (French will be considered an advantage)
