Responsibilities
Launched in 2008, “The Rachel Maddow Show” follows the machinations of policy making in America, from local political activism to international diplomacy. Rachel Maddow looks past the distractions of political theater and stunts and focuses on the legislative proposals and policies that shape American life - as well as the people making and influencing those policies and their ultimate outcome, intended or otherwise.
Join the Maddow team as a segment producer and contribute daily by pitching, writing and producing exceptional, compelling stories about politics, current affairs, public policy, foreign news and quirky things that happen every day.
Job Duties
• Work closely with anchor, Rachel Maddow, and senior staff to determine daily show content
• Pitch and shape segment ideas with a specific “TRMS” angle
• Participate in daily staff editorial and production meetings
• Determine best sound, video and graphics to tell the story
• Write compelling copy for your segment
• Be in control room during your assigned segment
• Pitch guest ideas and on occasion, pre-interview guests
• Pitch and field produce segments on occasion

Basic Qualifications :
· Bachelor's degree
· Must have at least 3 years of experience in broadcast media
· Write accurate segments under tight deadline
· Demonstrated interest in current events, politics and public affairs
· Strong internet research techniques
· Ability to develop story ideas, research and plan segments
Requirements :
· Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in United States
· Must be willing to work overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends, often with short notice
Desired Characteristics
Desired Characteristics :
· Ability to "book" guests, and work with graphics and video elements
· Exceptional editorial skills: Ability to recognize stories with high potential for provocative, compelling television
· Knowledge of current events, politics and international news
· Well read on various news sites and blogs
· Strong knowledge of social media
· Knowledge of Avid/Interplay and iNews preferred
· Preferred major – Journalism, Political Science, History or related field
