Primary Responsibilities
- Raise external and internal awareness of Morgan Stanley's Institute for Sustainable Investing. Promote the Institute's mission to support resilient communities and promote economic opportunity and global sustainability through the capital markets. Partner with the Institute's leadership to highlight the initiatives, programs and research of the group across external channels such as press and digital platforms, and internal channels that reach employees across the Firm.
- Promote the activities, policies and operations of Morgan Stanley's Diversity and Inclusion, Recruiting and Philanthropy initiatives with the media and employees, working closely with colleagues in those departments and in Internal Communications to position Morgan Stanley with internal and external audiences as an employer of choice that gives back to the community.
- Support Morgan Stanley's Information Technology Departments in their external communications needs, acting as their key liaison point with the media.
- Act as the content manager and coordinator for digital media across the various supported areas, and work closely to develop and drive effective internal communications that raise employee awareness of initiatives and activities.
- The position requires daily, proactive relations with national, local and specialty media to generate positive coverage of Morgan Stanley's activities in these areas, and coordination with both internal stakeholders and colleagues engaged in internal communications and social media to ensure a coordinated approach. Media relations activities will span meeting with covered stakeholders to set communications goals, developing media and content plans and identifying opportunities; pitching story ideas; providing background information; coordinating interviews with principals; and serving as a media spokesperson, ensuring that established communications goals are met. The successful candidate will have a high degree of familiarity with both social media techniques and methods and traditional media outlets outside of the usual financial and business media that cover the company.
- In addition to media relations, the successful candidate will initiate and/or participate in other creative and proactive initiatives in the digital media arena that complement the activities related to recruiting new employees and positioning the company as a socially responsible employer of choice that is active in the community. The successful candidate will work closely with his or her colleagues in internal communications to ensure that these messages also reach existing employees. These activities will include writing articles for the company intranet; working with covered stakeholders to create content for external audiences; working with the company's employee networks to identify opportunities for effective internal and external communications; identifying and coordinating speaking opportunities for stakeholders; and managing other projects as needed.

Skills required
- The Firm seeks a poised, self-confident, pro-active candidate with at least four years of experience in public relations, including media relations – preferably with experience both in the financial services sector and with working in or supporting the human resources and community affairs areas. A high degree of familiarity with media outlets and reporters that focus on talent, employee engagement and community involvement, as well as a track record of securing coverage of corporate activities in this area with national media is preferred. Strong knowledge and a track record of communicating effectively using social media tools is also a requirement.
- The successful candidate must demonstrate a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team -- making informed decisions in a complex and fast-paced environment.
