Our Internships are 12 months long (although this is flexible for some roles) and during your placement, we’ll make you an integral part of our team and give you a real job – with real responsibilities – from day one. We hope to help you expand your horizons and encourage your personal and professional development.   We want to make sure you get the most from your time with us. That’s why once you join we’ll work out ambitious but achievable goals for you. Then through the support of a buddy and regular reviews with your manager, we’ll help you achieve them.   If all goes well, we may even offer you a role after graduation.
 
Life in Research Development and Quality (RD&Q):
As an intern at Mondelēz International you will be responsible and fully accountable for a given project from start to finish. During the placement you will be expected to plan and execute experiments related to your project; produce technical reports/presentations and periodically communicate your key findings to stakeholders. You will also have the opportunity to interact with other departments within the RD&Q and the wider business and for certain roles with suppliers. In addition to this you may also be expected to support other ongoing project activities in and outside of your immediate team. For some disciplines occasional international travel maybe required.
 
We have RD&Q centres supporting Mondelēz International research and innovation in 2 UK locations:
Bournville: Chocolate RD&QReading: Reading Scientific Services (RSSL) and Central Shared Service; the teams in Reading also undertake a wide range of analytical contracts for a variety of healthcare, food and pharmaceutical companies.
 
The Roles:
 
Metals (Reading)The Metals Laboratory undertakes a wide range of analytical contracts for a variety of healthcare, food and pharmaceutical companies and supports Mondelēz International research and innovation.  As an intern you will conduct sample preparation (e.g. ashing and microwave digestion) and undertake analyses using a range of spectroscopy techniques (including AAS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS).

 Physical Sciences (Reading)The physical properties of food and pharmaceutical products are of vital importance, in predicting and optimising quality and behaviour during processing and storage. As an intern in this area you will perform a wide range of analyses both with a team and independently on products from the food, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries for our clients. You will develop expertise in analytical methods and operation of laboratory equipment including Karl Fischer, Malvern Mastersizer, mechanical sieving and texture analysers.

Functional Ingredients (Reading)The Functional ingredients group provides a range of analytical methods to assist customers with nutritional claim substantiation, due diligence, labelling and ingredient stability. As an intern you will work both with a team and independently to undertake a range of routine and investigative analyses. You will also develop expertise in a range of analytical methods and laboratory equipment including HPLC, GC, IC, Hunter Lab Colourimeter, Autotitrator and UV-Vis spectroscopy.

 Pharmaceutical (Reading)
The Pharmaceutical chemistry team performs a range of routine and specialised analyses for a variety of pharmaceutical and healthcare companies. You will learn to work to GMP standards, to perform routine testing of pharmaceutical raw materials against the pharmacopoeia and client methods, as well as to develop expertise in a range of analytical methods and operation of laboratory equipment.

Microscopy (Reading)
The Microscopy group carries out investigative analysis to support our foreign body identification and product contamination services. They also carry out routine and bespoke pharmacopoeia testing. An intern in this role would be expected to develop expertise in analytical techniques including light microscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-ray microanalysis and microfluorescence.

  Process Solutions (Bournville)As an intern your work will be varied involving small scale experiments and development and lab trials with possible opportunities and experiences in pilot plant, factory and consumer test trials.

Desired profile

Essential Candidate Requirements 
-       Studying towards a Chemistry related degree or similar
-       2:1 degree - predicted end result  (or equivalent)
-       Naturally inquisitive and passionate about technical excellence
-       Open to acquiring new skills and able to demonstrate strong analytical, communication and presentation abilities
-       Pro-active, highly motivated, ready to take on new responsibilities and build strong relationships
-       Experience of planning experiments or trials
-       Able to travel
-       Good working knowledge of MS Office
