Job description
Established in 1976 the Mosque and Islamic Centre of Brent provides facilities to the local Muslim community for prayers free Islamic Counselling for the Community and regular surgeries by the local MP and the police. We also provide free advice by solicitors on immigration and other issues. Centre also supports the ULFA Aid Project for 'Food for the Homeless’ which takes place in the mosque every fortnight.
In order to plan, run, and manage the various community projects of Brent Mosque we currently looking for innovative graduate to take on the role of 'Facilities Manager’.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, as the Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day planning and running of all the various projects, services and facilities of the mosque. This will include the following:
1. Co-ordination of services
- To maintain and develop the Centre’s Information, advice and support services.
- (ii) Formulate & direct the implementation of the Mosque & Islamic Centre’s policies.
- Help to formulate and implement local government policy in the Centre to ensure that legal and statutory provisions are observed.
- Build and maintain relationships with other key stakeholders including Local Governmental bodies.
- Plans, organises, coordinates and directs the resources of Brent Mosque to ensure that ongoing projects and activities (i.e. training programmes for public service providers, schools and youth clubs) are developed to the needs of the local and wider community and are delivered.
- Providing support to the other groups under the wider Brent Mosque’s umbrella including the Women’s group, the Youth group, the children’s’ group and to re-establish and support the Older People’s group. .
- Work with the Admin/ Support staff to build up robust processes and systems to enable the smooth running of services and the Centre
- Identifying the needs of the Muslim community which require action by the centre and work with the Trustees to ensure adequate resources exist to address these needs. This may include hospital and prison visiting, relief of financial hardship or other such services.
- Organises Mosque’s office and admin work and resources, negotiates contracted out service.
2. Finance & Administration
- Overseeing the day to day financial management and control of Brent Mosque in conjunction with the Admin Finance person.
- Ensuring, in conjunction with the Admin Finance person, that income and expenditure is managed within the set budgets and that accurate financial records are maintained for the project.
- Ensuring, in conjunction with the Admin Finance person, that all necessary information is available to allow the completion of accounts and assessment or inspection by funding organisations
- Liaising with the Treasurer in the operation and control of the agreed Budgets for the project.
- Maintaining accurate and timely financial and monitoring returns as required by the Committee and Funders.
- Producing management reports on progress of the programme as required.
3. Marketing and Communications
- To raise awareness of the Centre and its work within the Muslim community and
- Overseeing the development of publicity and promotion material in conjunction with the PR Officer or appointed PR Company.
- Review promotional and publicity material on an annual basis and produce other materials as required e.g. Annual report ofr the board of trustees.
- Stimulating public interest by organising lectures, Q&A seminars and organising appeals & fund raising in the wider community.
- Planning or undertaking the preparation, publication and dissemination of reports and other information pertaining to the Mosque & Islamic Centre
4. Fund Raising
- Assisting the Board of Trustees in creating a sustainable fundraising strategy for the project.
- Representing Brent Mosque in consultation and negotiation with government, departments, NGOs or other public bodies;
5. General Management
- Ensure that the Islamic Centre is maintained in good condition and provides a safe and efficient environment for staff, members and visitors and maintaining up to date insurances.
- Working closely with the Imam to ensure all religious and educational activities are carried out within the centre and with the Muslim community of Brent as a whole and are supported and facilitated.
- Developing a volunteer’s base and organising appropriate training of volunteers to assist them to effectively support the work of the centre.
6 Qualifications
We have no age, gender, or faith restrictions however the Ideal candidate will be the minimum of a Graduate preferably in English Law or Public Relations. Management experience in a none-profit or charity organisation offering community, religious or spiritual services will be a definite advantage but is not mandatory as we are willing to consider Entry Level Graduates.
Please note that the job may, from time to time, require to work out side normal hours and over weekends to support the centre.
