Job description
SUMMARY/GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under close supervision, incumbent applies understanding of engineering principles to provide technical support in engineering for new product design and development, existing product modifications, and/or process design, development and optimization and performance evaluation. Responsibilities include fabrication, testing and documentation of products and processes. Under close supervision, develops test protocols, technical methods and test reports. Coordinates and plans testing and documentation requirements. Provides technical support to other functional areas of the Company as required. Ensures compliance with Quality System requirements.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Design:
Provides technical support in engineering for the design of
products, processes, tooling and/or equipment on assigned
projects with OEM/ Purchased Medical Device / Contract Manufacturing suppliers
2. Project Management:
Under close supervision manages small scale engineering projects. Responsible for the coordination and completion of projects. Oversees all aspects of projects. Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, and monitors and summarizes progress of project. Prepares reports for upper management regarding status of projects.
3. Documentation and Systems:
Under close supervision, develops product and process verification and validation, technical justifications, test protocols, and reports in compliance with design control requirements.
4. Analysis:
Analyzes technical data and trends of some complexity and reports information about products and processes to appropriate employees, as assigned.
5. Optimization:
Identifies areas for improvement of manufacturing and lab tooling and technical processes in all project phases and recommends changes to appropriate management. Provides production line support as assigned.
6. Presentation and Training:
Provides technical training for employees. Provides process and systems training to other functional areas as necessary. Assists engineering with resourcing and identifying process, equipment and lab service subcontractors.
7. Safety:
Identifies safety issues in the immediate work environment and other work areas and recommends solutions for improvement.
8. Continuous Learning:
Reviews appropriate technical literature for necessary background on specific assignments.
Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (educational requirement, certification or licensing standards and experience requirements):
• Master’s level student currently enrolled in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical or Materials Engineering program with a 3.5 GPA or higher. Internship will be full time for the Spring-Summer or the Summer-Fall of 2016, working 40 hours per week.
• Very good organizational skills.
• Very good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and present technical information as necessary for the company and for suppliers.
• Very good analytical and problem solving skills.
• Very good interpersonal skills to interface on project teams as an effective team member.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Previous Engineering Internships preferred.
• Working knowledge of Minitab, SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred.
• Medical Device experience preferred.
