Salary :Competitive plus bonus ( dependant on experience)

We are looking to recruit a Veterinary Surgeon to join our team focused on the veterinary care of the pets at WALTHAM, the global research centre for Mars Petcare. As part of our pet health team, you will deliver high quality veterinary care to our resident research population, which enables scientific insights that impact millions of pets worldwide through Mars Petcare products and services.

In Leicestershire, we have a fundamental petcare science centre, the WALTHAM Centre for Pet Nutrition , which is recognized as one of the world’s leading scientific authorities in the field of pet health, nutrition and wellbeing. We have an amazing opportunity within the veterinary team at Waltham, focused on the veterinary care of the animals in our centre.

Our researchers work across multiple disciplines that are linked to pet nutrition and health. Such disciplines include nutrient requirements for different pet life stages and lifestyles, gastrointestinal health, energy requirements, immune function, skin and coat condition, oral health, feeding behaviour, and clinical nutrition.

There is a new and exciting opportunity to join the veterinary team at Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition. You will be working in a small close knit team of 2 vets and 2 nurses but with opportunities to interact with numerous colleagues within other teams on site on a daily basis. The friendliness of our site cannot be underestimated and joining our team you would soon make lots of contacts in all areas of our interesting centre. Our team aims to provide gold standard veterinary care to all the dogs and cats at our site. This role provides unique opportunities to get to know all your patients really well and deliver veterinary care to an excellent standard without the limitations that are often extended in general practice.

We have full out of hours cover and there are no weekends and no evening shifts. We work hard to ensure all our animals love visiting the veterinary team and our behaviour and training staff work hard to help us with this. Who wouldn’t love a job where most of the patients are really excited to see every time and where you are regularly asked just to have a play and fuss with the puppies so they get to know you?

The purpose of this role is to deliver day to day Veterinary Care, you will provide veterinary care for our animal population consisting mainly of consultations, routine surgery and dental care. General anaesthetics are always carried out by two members, a veterinary nurse and a veterinary surgeon, so it is expected that the candidate is able to work without support from other surgeons. Emergency and cases requiring hospitalisation are referred to our external veterinary partner with whom you the candidate will have an opportunity to discuss cases and develop mutually.

What you will do:

·  Provide routine veterinary care for our animal population, including rounds & surgery
·  Drive continuous improvement initiatives in veterinary services
·  Be the one of the Named Veterinary Surgeons (NVS) for the research centre
·  Partner with colleagues at WALTHAM and throughout Mars to drive continuous improvement in veterinary care in our global network of pet centres.
·  Develop leadership skills and transferable competencies that go beyond pure veterinary medicine

What you look like:

·  Eligibility to be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)
·  Experience in a small animal veterinary practice is essential
·  Experience in health care provision for an animal research population is desirable
·  Experience of working with research teams is desirable
·  RCVS approved NVS training must be completed prior to or within one year of appointment
