The Role: 

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for the operation and of all plant centralized utility systems including high pressure boilers, turbine generator set, gas high pressure compressors, centrifugal refrigeration chillers, cooling towers, centrifugal air compressors, and HVAC systems. 

The Stationary Engineer must have multi-craft skills (mechanical, welding & electrical) and be able to troubleshoot and make repairs to a wide variety of equipment. The Stationary Engineer is expected to complete preventive maintenance on equipment and identify/implement continuous improvement opportunities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

General: Shift/Area Responsibility

·  Operates building HVAC equipment, including high pressure boilers, all heating and ventilating equipment, assuring a properly-controlled climate.  Responsible to maintain the safe and efficient operation of equipment including boilers, chillers, centrifugal air compressors, cooling towers, turbine, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, steam and cooled water coils and HVAC system.
·  Have mechanical, electrical, controls expertise to identify and repair equipment problems.
·  Follow safety/LOTO procedures.
·  Conduct routine audits of operating equipment.
·  Maintain an open and professional line of communication with associates in both the production and SAR areas.
·  Maintenance - routine activities; responsible for: Troubleshoot, adjust and initiate repairs to equipment in all SAR areas.
·  Inspect and monitor the condition of equipment.
·  Identify and follow-up on improvement opportunities.
·  Enter planned work orders into the MIS system.
·  Complete preventive maintenance and/or planned work orders.
·  Provide maintenance assistance during routine shut-downs. 
·  Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on the mechanical HVAC production and distribution systems, lighting, life safety systems and electric machinery.  Maintains inspection and testing records.  Evaluates the condition of electrical systems and recommends repair or replace actions.  Documents off normal incidents.  Coordinates maintenance with outside contractors.
·  Responds to emergency malfunction events, assesses situation and takes action to stabilize situation to avoid further damage and make safe.  Documents off-normal incidents.  
·  Traces out proposed utility service shutdowns to identify affected areas and activates service shutdowns and reactivations.  Reviews the building systems installation by outside contractors and records deficiencies on punch list.  Participates in system start-up, training and commissioning. 
·  Utilizes and maintains tools and instruments associated with the HVAC operations and maintenance trade.
·  Records time and materials expended on computerized SAP system.  Following manufactures and regulatory specifications reviews and updates building systems and equipment preventive maintenance records and schedules. 
·  The position actively follows regulatory agency compliance requirements, supports the Company and goal objectives, the department quality improvement and operating goals, as well as principles goals, individually and as an effective team member. 

Engineering/Projects:

·  Be a resource during project installation.
·  Assist in the startup of new project.
·  Work with Engineering resources and/or other associates to implement continuous improvement.
·  Training.
·  Assist in training other associates as required.
·  Assist operators to develop basic preventive maintenance and repair techniques.
·  Responsible for own personal development.

Minimum Qualifications: 

·  MUST HAVE Current City of Chicago Stationary Engineering License. 
·  A minimum of two (2) years previous experience as a licensed stationary engineer engaged in the operation of high pressure boilers. 
·  A high school or trade school diploma or equivalent with coursework in math, science, reading blueprints and equipment schematics is required. 
·  Experience in a manufacturing or comparable institution is preferred.
