Cocoa Sustainability Analyst

Salary - £30,000 - £38,000 + Benefits + Bonus

Housed within our commercial sourcing function, the Mars cocoa sustainability team is a leader in the sustainability space, driving results-based impacts for cocoa farmers and their families, and contributing to the Mars Inc. Sustainable in a Generation Plan.

As part of our new Cocoa for Generations strategy, the Cocoa Sustainability Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of Responsible Cocoa today (by protecting children, protecting forests and improving farmer incomes) and Sustainable Cocoa for tomorrow (by transforming our supply chains, support entrepreneurialism, empowering women and contributing towards resilient livelihoods).

This role supports the global Cocoa team to manage our information management system, monitor the effectiveness of our Cocoa for Generations implementation, oversee third party impact reporting of our programs, suppliers and other partners, improve knowledge management and learning frameworks, use technology to collect and manage farm and community data, and create reports with actionable insights.

The Cocoa Sustainability Analyst will have the freedom and the responsibility to develop the tools and processes to enable the Cocoa team to manage our performance and generate quality reporting. This position is expected to build collaborative relationships across Mars’ sustainability teams, suppliers and expert partners, remain current on the latest impact reporting methods, data collection and research to share learnings and perspective that drives alignment and mutual understanding on sustainability issues. This is exciting opportunity to work on a Mars flagship sustainability program.

Key Responsibilities:

·  50% Manage collection & maintenance of cocoa sustainability data
·  25% Report, analyze and forecast against Cocoa for Generation goals
·  15% Create compelling presentations that tell the story to key internal and external stakeholders
·  10% Analyze and translate information based on research results and relevant secondary sustainability information into insights and actionable recommendations for business decisions
·  Provides analytical insight to help determine the organization's future direction and cocoa sustainability initiatives
·  Leads the development of and manages related data collection and analytical requirements for Cocoa for Generations key performance indicators
·  Provides key inputs and data coordination cocoa sourcing and supplier development teams to track, assess and forecast Cocoa for Generations progress
·  Works with internal and external third party experts to develop innovative research techniques and databases to assist with scenario planning and materiality analysis

·  Uses qualitative, quantitative, multivariate and modeling techniques and approaches to evaluate cocoa sustainability data
·  Works to ensures integrity of cocoa sustainability data for eventual third party validation
·  Accountable for ensuring all sustainability reporting initiatives are completed on-time, on budget and consistent with requirements and objectives

To do this role you’ll need:

·  Minimum education of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field required (e.g. International Development, Economics, Statistics, Political Science, and Business Administration)
·  Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate highly complex findings to focus on the critical issues and actionable opportunities.
·  Familiarity with knowledge management principles and approaches
·  Experience using software packages and data analysis programs (eg: Stata, R, Power BI, GIS)
·  Experience using database management software (eg: SQL, Microsoft Access)
·  Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate highly complex findings to focus on the critical issues and actionable opportunities
·  Familiarity with program monitoring and evaluation (M&E)
·  Proven ability to work independently, a self-starter attitude
·  Background in working with a multi-cultural team across time zones
·  Willingness to travel internationally up to 20-30% in rural settings

Preferred

·  Fluency in French
·  Experience in working in a developing country setting and familiarity with endemic data collection and analytical challenges
