Packaging Technologist, Birstall, Leeds
Salary: £26,000 - £32,000

The purpose of this job is to plan and deliver on a range of packaging development & implementation projects in line with PNE growth and cost optimization strategies, and Quality & Food Safety standards.
What are we looking for?
Education:
· Desirable: Degree level qualification in a relevant technical or scientific discipline (Food Science/Technology, Biological, Chemical, Engineering sciences)
· Essential: Recognised professional qualification in a relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent experience in an FMCG environment
Knowledge / Experience:
· Desirable: Experience in a similar role within an FMCG environment
· Desirable: Good command of the English language
· Desirable: Experience in scoping and managing projects in an FMCG environment
· Essential: Experience in experimental design and execution
· Desirable: Direct experience of food packaging design and manufacturing processes
· Essential: Strong communication skills and proven ability to work as part of an effective team
· Desirable: Knowledge of food packaging substrate functionality
What would be your key responsibilities?
· Execute and deliver on a range of packaging development & implementation projects that will lead to continuous improvement in product design and performance
· Execute and deliver on projects designed to optimize business costs, while adhering to agreed standards of Quality and Food safety
· Manage the implementation of new packaging and site packaging specifications in line with PNE design principles and Packaging Quality Management standards and support technical risk assessments on changes to packaging, and ensure that all risks are effectively managed
· Contribute to the definition of minimum standards and critical success factors (CSFs) as part of the Handover 1 and 2 processes for defined packaging implementation projects in collaboration with other site R&D team members, PNE Hub R&D, and local cross-functional teams
· Collate and manage packaging data, ensuring that that our packaging conforms to standards, and that exceptions are effectively escalated and managed
· Work on Level 2 trouble-shooting activities in partnership with other functions to ensure the successful resolution of packaging issues
· Contribute to Product Related Incident Management Process (PRIMP) teams as required
· Input into local and European Activity Task Groups (ATGs), providing risk assessment and technical support as required
· Actively participate in regional technical communities to promote the effective sharing of knowledge and experience across the PNE network and central teams
· Support and manage projects and activities across functional boundaries (Q&FS and PPI) as required by the Site R&D manager
