Mars Wrigley Confectionary is looking for a Food Safety Scientist in the Albany, GA area.
The Food Safety Scientist establishes the setting & tone for the food safe programs at the site. They provide leadership in the identification and implementation of product and process quality and food safety improvement opportunities that result in adherence to regulatory and Mars Global Q&FS standards. This position is a critical enabler for decision making on process, equipment and packaging commissioning growth to ensure food safety and quality.
Key Requirements:
· They will manage continuous improvement and deployments throughout the factory to adhere to the Food Safety elements as defined in Mars Global QMP's.
· Lead qualification, product start up, ingredient qualification, and process improvement initiatives at our manufacturing location.
· Leads the establishment and continuous improvement of factory food safety (HACCP) processes, requirements, tools, and training that are aligned with the latest, most appropriate (including Codex and ISO 22000) industry food safety control strategies with cross functional production teams.
· Oversees the maintenance, deployment and verification of effectiveness and modifies as needed, established Quality Assurance systems across the factory.
· Works with Global Quality and all factory functions to ensure effective transfer of systems.
· Communicates food safety processes & requirements and delivers training to cross-functional groups to ensure HACCP is effectively implemented & applied during the development, scale-up, and on-going production of all products.
· Manages, maintains and continuously improves Food Safety procedures and systems for the factory.
· Assures that associates are trained in the ongoing performance and maintenance of procedures.
· Leads multi department teams ensuring the implementation and adherence to Food safety systems.
· Functions as a source of expertise on food safety systems within Quality and Food Safety Department.
· Assists all groups in the development of solid corrective action plans to quality system deficiencies.
· This position leads quality efforts in factory expansion through equipment and process qualification and validation. The incumbent solves broad and navigates complex problems, modifies systems and tools as needed.
· Assesses systems, policies and procedures to identify any quality opportunities or areas for quality system improvements that ensure the quality of products that include (but not limited to) GMP, HACCP, Document Control, and Non-conformance and Corrective Action processes.
· Remain abreast of new developments in assigned area of responsibility by reviewing professional literature and attending training sessions as indicated.
· Remain current in regulatory requirements as needed.
· Participate in a team based environment.
· Support TPM methodology in problem solving.
· Lead and participate in focused improvement project teams, capital project start up teams and problem solving teams.
· Develop and train other in quality related SOPs.
Minimum Qualifications:
· BS degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Engineering, Chemistry or related technical field & and an internship in quality and food safety in a manufacturing environment or a combination of education and 5+ years demonstrated success in relevant manufacturing/quality experience
· 3 years of experience in different quality related areas such as raw materials, distribution, manufacturing
· 3 years of experience in a manufacturing site managing quality and food safety management systems responsible
· Knowledge with ISO 9001: 2008 Quality Management Systems
· Knowledge of GMP, GLP, food allergens, pest control, sanitation and food safety regulations
· Experience with Food safety risk, identification and management, HACCP and prerequisite controls and GFSI Quality Systems such as: SQF, BRC, FSSC22000, ISO9000 or ISO17025
· Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
· Demonstrated leadership capabilities in leading/influencing others
· Ability to travel 10% of the time
· Successful Completion of a drug and background screen
Desired profile

· Demonstrated success leading a team
