Job Summary
The Painter is responsible for the application, maintenance, and restoration of finishes on walls, ceilings, furniture, and hotel facilities, ensuring compliance with Marriott Brand Standards. This role requires expertise in painting techniques, surface preparation, drywall work, and finishing repairs. Additionally, the Painter must log all work in Transcendent to ensure proper tracking and compliance with preventive and corrective maintenance plans.
Key Responsibilities
Painting Application & Maintenance
•    Apply paint, varnish, sealers, and other finishes to walls, ceilings, and furniture using brushes, rollers, or spray guns.
•    Prepare surfaces by applying primers and sealers to ensure adhesion and durability of the finish.
•    Restore and maintain the finishes of furniture, doors, and window frames following hotel quality standards.
•    Remove old finishes using sanding, scraping, wire brushes, or chemical stripping.
•    Ensure all areas are properly covered with plastic sheets or tape before beginning work.
Drywall Work & Repairs
•    Repair drywall damage such as cracks, holes, and loose joints, ensuring a smooth and even finish.
•    Install, cut, sand, and seal drywall panels for remodeling or repair projects.
•    Apply joint compound, sanding, and surface preparation before painting.
•    Ensure all drywall repairs meet Marriott Brand Standards for quality and aesthetics.
Safety & Compliance
•    Follow safety protocols when handling paints, solvents, and flammable materials.
•    Use personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, goggles, and gloves, as per hotel guidelines.
•    Report any incidents, structural damage, or maintenance issues to the supervisor.
•    Keep work areas clean and ensure proper storage of tools and materials at the end of each shift.
Equipment, Materials & Inventory Management
•    Log all activities and materials used in the Transcendent system, ensuring accurate inventory control.
•    Coordinate with external vendors to select and modify paint colors and varnish finishes as needed.
•    Inspect tools and equipment regularly to ensure proper functionality.
Guest Service & Support
•    Respond promptly to maintenance requests related to painting and drywall repairs in guest rooms and public areas.
•    Ensure that any painting work in public areas is conducted with minimal disruption to guests.
•    Apply the LEARN service recovery model for situations where maintenance work may impact the guest experience:
o    Listen carefully to the guest’s concern.
o    Empathize with the situation.
o    Apologize for the inconvenience.
o    Resolve the issue efficiently.
o    Notify supervisors or relevant departments as needed.

Education & Experience
•    Technical, trade, or vocational school degree in painting or finishing (preferred).
•    At least 1 year of experience in painting and drywall work in hotels, commercial properties, or building maintenance.
•    General maintenance experience (preferred).
•    Knowledge or experience using Transcendent (preferred).
Skills & Competencies
•    Proficiency in painting techniques, sealing, and finishing on various surfaces.
•    Ability to mix and match paint colors to meet hotel design standards.
•    Knowledge of safe handling of paints, thinners, and other chemicals.
•    Experience working with drywall materials, joint compound, and finishing techniques.
•    Ability to work at heights using scaffolding or ladders.
•    Ability to read and interpret blueprints or design plans for painting and drywall projects.
•    Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Work Conditions
•    Availability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
•    Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds without assistance.
•    Ability to work in elevated or confined spaces, rooftops, and outdoor areas.
•    Ability to climb stairs and ladders and use safety equipment as needed.
