Function
Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, the successful incumbent will be required to prepare old furniture surfaces for refinishing with proper stripping procedures including stripper, sandpaper grits, proper filling of scratched or damaged surfaces. Finish new cabinets, shelves, door trim, and sign frames. Apply stain and finishing chemicals including stain mixtures and various types of finishes, as well as maintain the quality and standards of the Westin Cape Town
Required Experience & Qualifications

4-5 years' experience in a similar position
·
Must be prepared to work shifts and weekend duty departmental cycles and afterhours coverage of the hotel maintenance as per operational requirements essential
·
Mature, energetic and quick witted
·
Minimum 5 years' experience post trade test
·
Hospitality experience advantageous
·
Be flexible with regards to working hours
·
Ability to work independently and for long hours with little supervision
·
Must be able to read and understand English language
Key Responsibilities
·
The preparation and spraying/French polishing of all fixed and removable equipment in the hotel and outlets
·
To maintain the highest standard of workmanship and occupational safety
·
To control the loss, abuse and breakage of operating equipment and to ensure that all equipment and tools are handled and stored correctly
·
To develop a thorough knowledge of all facilities and equipment of the hotel. To further develop a thorough knowledge of all maintenance pertaining to the upkeep of the condition of all woodwork and furniture in the hotel and outlets
·
Install shelving, relocate existing and assist in building new partitions where required
·
To repair any damaged furniture in the hotel or outlets to required standards
·
To maintain a good working relationship with all staff and departments related to the maintenance department
·
To ensure that all jobs are carried out speedily and to standards laid down by the company
·
To ensure the workshop is kept clean and tidy at all times
·
To be aware of emergency procedures and steps to take in the event of an emergency
·
Top assist contractors when required
·
To assist artisans with all other maintenance and repairs where requested.
·
Develop and maintain effective maintenance programs and record keeping of all furniture and equipment as per agreed policies, procedures and SOPs
·
To maintain at all times, the highest standard of appearance and integrity of equipment and furniture in accordance with company policy
·
Performance of weekend duty departmental cycles and or shift work including afterhours coverage of the hotel maintenance as rostered and per hotel requirements
·
Be fully conversant with the BMS for the effective control of utilities with in the hotel associated with appropriate record keeping and trending
·
To assist the stores controller in the effective procurement of relevant spares, consistent with quality and pricing.

To be readily available at all times to deal with problems and requests
·
Ensure that spare furniture is always available and in good condition to replace in front or back of house areas
·
To ensure that all check sheets relating to position are completed timeously- correctly and filed accordingly. All deviations are actioned accordingly
·
Participates in and is responsible for the effective implementation and completion to standards of preventative maintenance programs for the hotel, rooms and equipment
·
Ensure that all job tasks are completed on schedule and to agreed standards
·
To maintain at all times, the highest standard of appearance and integrity of equipment and plant rooms in accordance with company policy

Be prepared to work extended hours where required
·
Be prepared to perform other duties comparable to the above as these only describe primary features of this position.
