JOB SUMMARY
Leads and directs the Convention Services department. Directs the activities and oversees the performance of the Convention Services leadership team including, but not limited to, leader performance evaluations, departmental and leader goal-setting, the development and implementation of the leader training plan, career and succession planning. Promotes appropriate communication to all operational departments and assists in problem resolution. Develops and executes employee satisfaction action planning. Verifies that all operational policies and procedures are maintained throughout the convention services operation. Promotes compliance to all applicable life safety codes and regulations. Develops the annual department strategic plan and verify all areas adhere to the goals and objectives. Prepares and manages the department budget and revenue forecasts. Develops and executes the annual business plans. Promotes profitability of the departments.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED; 5 years’ experience event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing, or related professional area.
OR
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major; 3 years’ experience in the event management or related professional area.

Leading Teams
• Leads and directs the Convention Services department.

Managing Operations
• Verifies that all operational policies and procedures are maintained throughout the convention services operation. Promotes compliance to all applicable life safety codes and regulations.
• Develops the annual department strategic plan and verifies all areas adhere to the goals and objectives.
• Prepares and manages the department budget and revenue forecasts. Develops and executes the annual business plans. Promotes profitability of the departments.
• Promotes successful conference planning. Interacts with the client throughout the planning process and event execution to verify expectations are exceeded.
• Partners with the Sales team to assist with the sales and turnover process and problem resolution.
• Fosters all vendor relationships. Monitors commissions, conduct, quarterly reviews and manage all contractual obligations.
• Develops the content and maintains the accuracy of the meeting planners’ information, facility guidelines and online meeting tool.
• Verifies that client and meeting planning satisfaction goals are achieved through the smooth execution of all convention functions and events as measured by post event survey data.
Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service
• Communicates all details of catering events to operating departments and customers.
• Manages the quality process in areas of customer service and employee satisfaction.
Conducting Human Resources Activities
• Provides constructive coaching and counseling to employees.
• Directs the development, training, and mentoring of employees.
• Demonstrates knowledge of how and when to impose deadlines and delegate tasks.
• Motivates and provides a work environment in which employees are productive.
• Listens and responds to employee's needs.
• Manages group or interpersonal conflict situations.
• Develops and manages hourly employees.
The salary range for this position is $163,000 to $205,000 annually.
