This is an exciting new opportunity to join the newly formed Fire, Health & Safety and Compliance (FHSC) Team. We are accountable for maintaining safe and legal stores and any construction sites with M&S. We also represent the business on any due diligence defence, external enforcement action, and provide governance framework through Fire, Health & Safety, Food Safety and Audit Committees.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with strong coaching and engagement skills, who can adapt their communication style, depending on their audience. You will be a key link between the Fire, Health & Safety & Compliance (FHSC) Support Centre and Retail Stores to assist, coach and ensure queries are answered quickly and accurately.

Please note, the location of the successful candidate can be flexible. Due to the nature of the role travel will be required across the UK, Isle of Man, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland to inspect both Retail Stores and Construction sites. There is a requirement for a minimum 2 nights away a week due the large geographic area for inspections

About the role

Your key responsibilities will include:

·  Undertake objective “Trading Safely and Legally inspections” covering core Fire, Health & Safety, Legal and Compliance & Construction
·  Support the delivery of action plans for all areas of non-compliance, and ensure actions are closed out
·  Coach, support and develop Store Fire, Health & Safety Officers, Food Managers, Licence Holders and Store Management teams
·  Provide constructive feedback on inspection findings and required actions
·  Identify learning and training requirements at locations visited and build training into the annual calendar
·  Support the Central FHSC function to review policies and guides to ensure fit for purpose
·  Influence and support implementation of the Trading Safely and Legally strategy to improve compliance
·  Support stores to ensure consistent implementation of Trading Safely & Legally (TSL) policy and procedures
·  Provide weekly summary inspection data to TSL database
·  Conduct training and development of New Stores and ensure they are set up for success
·  Support central FHSC projects through key stakeholder engagement
·  Liaising with Fire, Health & Safety Officer (FHSO) networks and attendance at regional FHSO meetings
·  Build communication links across Retail Teams to ensure a first-class service is delivered to Stores

About you

Your experience will include:

·  Experience in Trading Safely & Legally Policies/ Health & Safety/ Food Safety (as part of your induction, you will also be provided with several training courses to ensure you are up to date with all the relevant information!)
·  Knowledge of Legal and Compliance policies for Retail Stores
·  Experience conducting Compliance/ Fire Health & Safety/ construction inspections
·  Willingness to continue upskilling on all related TSL courses
·  An adaptive communication style and confident influencing
·  Strong coaching skills, and proactively shares best practice
·  Experience of retail stores and their operational procedures
·  A self-starter and comfortable managing own diary
·  Personable, approachable and can build relationships with ease
