Job description

My client, a hugely successful manufacturing business, a market leader in it's industry, is looking to appoint an experienced Process Chemist due to impending retirement.

Job Purpose
To provide a technical service to production which involves, the development of new products and processes, laboratory and plant based trials for cost optimisation and investigations into processing issues.

Responsibilities
* Development projects on new and existing products and processes
* Cost optimisation initiatives on new formulations and raw materials
* Investigations into processing difficulties associated with, thin layer Plastisol coating, Plastisol mixing and filtration, Roto Gravure printing and UV coating/curing

Key data/measures for area of responsibility (e.g. production volume, sales budget)

* Annual budgeted raw materials costs
* Annual development budget

Qualifications
- Educational/Vocational training:
* Desired (but not essential) Chemistry related degree

Practical Experience
* Plastisol and thin film application processes
* Experience of lab work - testing chemistry formulations
* PVC and PVC Plasticisers
* Experience of working in a Manufacturing environment

Principal Activities
* Works with raw materials suppliers
* Formulates coatings using laboratory facilities
* Carries out factory tests on plant
* Interprets QC Test results
* Works with Controllers to obtain viewpoint costs
* Maintains records
* Works with Purchasing and Production
* Carry out laboratory investigations
* Plan suitable methods of achieving timely resolution of processing issues

Organisational Relationships
* Reports to Production Director

* Technical, Product Development Manager

Team Activities
Works with and sometimes leads any Team activities relating to problem solving or improvement in new product or existing product manufacturing and performance.

Salary
£49 000 Plus full benefits package

Hours of Work
Monday - Friday, 8am - 4.30pm

The Candidate
The successful candidate will be from a PVC product manufacturing background and may have worked with tarpaulins, wallpaper, wall-coverings or flooring, PVC coverings, have experience of working in a factory and lab environment and have a Chemistry related degree.
