This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and fast-paced Corporate Affairs Department as a Public Affairs Officer at our Head Office in Tolworth. 

 

Working alongside the Senior Public Affairs Manager and reporting into the Team Manager, you'll support the delivery of Lidl GB’s Public Affairs Strategy. You'll be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key external stakeholders including Government, Parliament, Trade bodies and Think tanks and ensuring responsibility for horizon scanning, issues management, and supporting the delivery of strategic integrated campaigns. 

 

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, proactive and agile Public Affairs Officer, who thrives in a fast-paced, quality focused retail environment  who can continue to build those relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

What you'll do

·  Support the delivery of Lidl GB’s Public Affairs strategy and engagement plan
·  Work with relevant external stakeholders such as trade associations, think tanks and academics to enhance Lidl’s reputation and influence across Government and Parliament
·  Represent Lidl GB in meetings with policymakers, trade bodies and external forums, both in person and virtually
·  Support the delivery of integrated campaigns on issues of strategic importance including collateral development, stakeholder mapping and forward planning
·  Build and maintain a network of external contacts across Government, Parliament and the devolved nations
·  Horizon scanning to drive proactive engagement with policymakers on relevant issues
·  Keep the business informed about relevant policy development and debates
·  Attend conferences, meetings and other events proactively feeding intelligence back to the business
·  Coordinate and support Public Affairs work across the business to ensure a consistent, strategic approach and information sharing
·  Manage correspondence from policymakers across GB
·  Support a community of best practice across the wider Corporate Affairs team through close collaboration with colleagues across the relevant business units
·  Provide administrative support to the team, including internal reporting

What you'll need

·  Experience within public affairs sector or government departments 
·  Strong understanding of UK political landscape
·  Ability to collaborate with internal stakeholders across multiple departments and levels 
·  Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment  
·  Ability to analyse and interpret internal and external trends and changes with short-, medium- and long-term horizon scanning 
·  Experience in building and maintaining strong relationships internally and externally  
·  Background working directly within government or parliament is desirable 
·  Fluent command of the English Language is essential with excellent written and oral communication skills 
·  Degree-level education
·  German language skills are desirable but not essential
