Functional Skills Tutor, English and Maths - What are the main duties of the role?

To identify and assess learner/client learning requirements and deliver solutions appropriately

Up to £18,000 per annum plus competitive benefits

What skills and experience are we ideally looking for?

  • Adult Certificate in literacy and numeracy (Level 2)
  • Excellent IT and internet user skills
  • Excellent team building skills and interpersonal skills
  • Teaching qualification is Desirable (PTTLSor equivalent)

What does the role involve?

The role of the Functional Skills Tutor is to support a given case load of learners/clients to identify their learning needs and select learndirect programmes to meet these needs in line with the learner/client to produce an effective learning plan.

You will be responsible for monitoring learner progress by proactively checking access to learning and asking questions to ensure learning continues to meet needs and that the learner completes their programme. You should also look to seek feedback from learners in order to review and improve service.

We expect Functional Skills Tutor to use a variety of support techniques to engage and stimulate individuals and groups to assist client retention/growth. This can be through the use of online learning, phone conversations and other tools available.

This role will ensure that the required processes are completed and in line with contractual deadlines to ensure that learndirect meets quality, audit and accreditation requirements e.g. participate in observations of training and learning as well as CPD as appropriate to the role

You will provide feedback to learners on in-course assessments and determine learner readiness for tests and achievement of courses and action accordingly. This role should also identify and refer learners to appropriate specialist support practitioners and support the quality team to monitor and understand learner satisfaction findings and put actions in place to contribute to the improvement of learner satisfaction ratings

Finally, the Functional Skills Tutor will contribute to, test and feedback on the learning support materials to ensure improved learning experience. You will also provide appropriate pastoral support to the learner and identify whether the learner is in need of Additional Learning Support.
