We are looking for an engineer with strong people skills to work with clients in a wide range of fields to help analyze their research and development (R&D) efforts and help prepare their SR&ED claims.

Position Summary

Canada's SR&ED program is one of the country's largest tax incentive programs. It is intended to create a supportive environment for Canadians to carry out R&D and foster innovation. The program has existed in one form or another for over 50 years. KPMG's SR&ED group consists of multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, accountants, and tax experts. These teams assist our clients in obtaining SR&ED tax credits offered by both the federal and provincial governments.

Role and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

·  Keeping up-to-date with innovative technologies and trends in the world of science and engineering.
·  Working in a cross-functional team environment to complete SR&ED claims for small, medium and large corporations.
·  Examining our clients' technology, products and operations to determine which R&D activities qualify for income tax incentives.
·  Effectively summarize the development activities of our clients' utilizing written reports and communication.
·  Planning, organizing and executing engagements on time and within budget.
·  Interviewing technical personnel and preparing all necessary documentation to file an SR&ED claim on behalf of our clients.
·  Successfully developing and managing client relationships.
·  Developing an understanding of the SR&ED program and the ability to interpret legislation.
·  Support clients in scientific and financial reviews conducted by the Canada Revenue Agency.
·  KPMG will provide the successful candidate with specialized training on the Canada Revenue Agencies' SR&ED Tax Credit program.
·  At times, business needs arise and employees are required and agree to work beyond their normal work day or work week to fulfill the accountabilities required for their job. Likewise, people need extra time to devote to personal matters, and our approach to flexibility provides for this.
Skills & Qualifications

A successful candidate will possess the following skills and behaviors:

·  Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, are a must.
·  A university degree in Engineering. (Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, Mechatronics, Automotive or similar discipline are preferred)
·  Minimum 2 years of progressive work experience within industry performing a role involving Manufacturing, Chemical, Mechanical/Automotive or Materials Engineering. Experience with the SR&ED program is desirable but not required.
·  Experience in roles that required a client-centric focus when completing deliverables.
·  Possess skills to conduct examinations of projects and articulate views in a clear manner.
·  Able to conduct technical interviews to evaluate R&D activities.
·  Effectively gathers information from a wide variety of sources relevant to each piece of work.
·  Effectively uses previous experience and technical knowledge to the benefit of the client.
·  Proven ability to plan tasks effectively for multiple clients to consistently achieve delivery milestones with the required level of quality.
·  Maintains relationships with co-workers, management and clients alike in a manner that is respectful, patient and understanding.
·  A desire for self-improvement through continuous learning.
·  Willingness to travel.
