Our Independence Group in the Department of Professional Practice is looking for an Analyst, Risk & Independence, to join our growing team. The Independence Group helps ensure the firm and its personnel are in compliance with Professional, Regulatory, and KPMG Global independence standards. This role highly focuses on liaison with Partners and Staff from all lines of service about the application of standards and policies pertaining to independence, including those established by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), CPA Code of Professional Conduct (CPA Code), and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

What You Can Expect in this Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
·  Supporting our Partners and Staff from our lines of client service (Audit, Tax, and Advisory) in the application of independence standards and policies.
·  Working directly with engagement teams to meet their independence obligations regarding new and existing audit clients, including performing independence checks as well as updating internal applications and databases/tools.
·  Preparing memos that document findings of independence reviews and checks conducted.
·  Developing an understanding of the applicable independence rules, through reading and interpreting the rules as well as our internal risk management manual, to effectively evaluate findings from independence assessments.
·  Researching and monitoring audit client activity to maintain the Restricted Entity Listing (REL) and Publicly Held Audit Clients (PHAC) Databases.
·  Responding to various independence questions from client service professionals, escalating matters to subject matters experts, and documenting resolutions where appropriate.
·  Collaboration and liaising with other departments and groups within KPMG is key for the role.
·  Providing support on ad-hoc project work.
·  Assisting with the development of other operational/project documentation.

What You Bring to KPMG

A successful candidate will possess the following skills and behaviours:
·  University education in a business or related field required.
·  Self-motivated, diligent, able to respond promptly and professionally to all requests and inquiries.
·  Ability to learn the independence rules and to apply them accordingly.
·  Strong verbal and written communication skills.
·  Reliable and dependable, and ability to meet tight deadlines and to work under pressure.
·  Takes initiative and has strong organizational, research, and analytical skills.
·  Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
·  Ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
·  Proficient with Word, Excel, Access, Research via the Internet.
·  Must be able to manipulate spreadsheet and database information for analysis.
·  Familiarity with various software packages and databases.
·  Be aware of the sensitivity of information received and treat it appropriately.
