Overview of the opportunity:
The newly created Business Law group of KPMG Law LLP, which focuses on legal advisory services relating to commercial entities and transactions, is looking for confident, disciplined and self-motivated articling students for our Toronto office.
Our Business Law group provides legal advice with respect to private mergers and acquisitions, complex reorganizations, and general corporate and commercial matters.
As a successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to work on diverse and intellectually challenging problems. You will get to perform legal research and draft legal opinions on a wide range of issues; work with lawyers in gathering information for the purpose of advising clients in both transactional and non-transactional matters; and assist in the preparation of written representations to law makers, tax authorities, and the tribunals/courts.
What you bring to the role:
· Law Degree at the start of the articling period or have received a certificate of qualification from the National Committee of Accreditation.
· In all cases, candidates must be registered with the Law Society's Licensing Process in order to be eligible to receive credit.
· Recent and relevant experience in mergers and acquisitions or public and administrative law will be considered an asset.
· Strong analytical skills to assess the applicability of legal principles and relevance of evidence.
· Strong interpersonal skills.
· Excellent organizational, administrative and time management skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
· Excellent written communication skills including the ability to prepare a variety of materials including, letters and memos of law.
· Strong research skills.
· Proficient in MS Office applications
