Hydro-Mechanical / Steel Structures Design Engineer - Water / Waste Water - Circa £45k pa + benefits package.
Kelly Engineering Resources are working with a prestigious global engineering multi-sector leader with offices in 50 countries world-wide and employing 16000 people. We have a role within their highly successful Water Division for a Design Engineer to come on board within this fast growing team.
This newly created role requires a talented Hydro-Mechanical Engineer / Structural Steelwork Designer with experience of hydraulic structures to join its team in Cambridge. The in-house hydromechanical team carry out a variety of projects including the rehabilitation of irrigation barrages on the river Indus and a number of hydropower schemes. In addition, our team works with the UK's Environment Agency on both its consultancy and design & build frameworks and provides support to other water and wastewater projects being delivered by the Water Division.
You will join an innovative multidisciplinary team of Mechanical, Civil, Process and Electrical / C&I Engineers, and play a key role in the design of a wide range of water and wastewater schemes, but in particular this role will enhance our in-house team dealing with hydromechanical works and steel hydraulic structures both within the UK and overseas.
You will be involved in projects at all stages of design from concept through to construction supervision and you will be responsible for the preparation of design documents, drawings and calculations using Autodesk and Microsoft products. You may also supervise the work of more junior engineers, and provide technical and professional guidance to assist their development.
You will be flexible, ideally with a broad experience of water and pumping type projects, able to manage you own workload and work independently at times in a role which will be client facing at times. Experience of working with locally based staff on overseas projects would be an advantage, as would work for the UK's Environment Agency.
Essentials Criteria & Qualifications:
- Qualified to degree level and Chartered or Incorporated (or close to achieving)
- Relevant experience with hydraulic structures/hydromechanical equipment
- High-volume pumping experience beneficial
- Strong multidisciplinary knowledge of your field, able to positively advise other disciplines regarding aspects of their design as it impacts mechanical engineering issues
- Design of steel structures (gates and operating equipment) to Eurocode 3/DIN 19704 and similar standards
- Progressive and imaginative in your work, striving to add value where possible for the benefit of the company and our clients.
