Supplier Development Engineer - Peterlee - Up to £27ph LTD

Job description

A Supplier Development Engineer is required for one of the world’s leading manufacturer of off-highway machinery and diesel & natural gas engines based in Peterlee. This quality role is an initial 12 month contract position (expected extension) offering up to £27 per hour LTD or Umbrella.

The Supplier Development Engineer will lead supplier development and drive fabrications suppliers to improve delivery, quality and cost performance. Support supplier development and APQP activities for bought in fabricated parts from concept through to production supply. Exercises independent judgement with direction from supervisor.

Education/Experience:

• A degree in an engineering or manufacturing-related discipline or equivalent progressive work experience.
• Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment, ideally fabrication, Automotive or Yellow Good experience preferred.
• Process improvement, development and control knowledge with experience of improving quality, cost and delivery metrics
• Experience of APQP/PPAP to AIAG standards.

Skills and Competencies:

• Thorough knowledge of how to control and improve processes.
• Ability to effectively train / coach diverse groups about quality concepts, certifications, processes and tools - preferred.
• Knowledge of AIAG APQP and PPAP standards and ability to develop Suppliers capabilities with regards to them.
• Knowledge of welding and painting processes is highly desirable.
• Strong communications, collaboration and influencing skills. Ability to work with diverse teams of employees and customers.
• Advanced computer skills are essential.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills.
• Suppler Audit knowledge and experience are highly desirable.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develops supplier’s capabilities to SQEP standards to meet corporate and business unit requirements
• Assures Supplier Readiness in the Network through proper On Boarding
• Rigorous Review & Approval of Supplier’s PPAPs
• Assists the Regional Category Team in Category Strategy Execution
• Conducts supplier pre-assessments, on boarding of new suppliers, capability development, capacity assessment, process control on-site audits and SQEP certifications
• Deploys Lean Processes to ensure Built in Quality and Delivery Capability in the Supplier Network
• Supports the Global and Regional Category Manager/Supervisor/Lead on capability issue resolution with the Supply Network
• Engages in resolution of capability issues driving performance issues through root cause corrective and preventive action.
