The Janssen Preparative Separation Techniques (PST) group is a Centre of Excellence for small molecule purification within Janssen (Pharmaceutical Division of Johnson & Johnson). As a subdivision of API Small Molecule Development it has the following main tasks:
· Purification of intermediates to support process development work.
· GMP-purification of intermediates and final API for clinical use.
· Purification of reference material and isolation of impurities for analytical purposes.
· Development and optimization of chromatographic processes for production purposes.
· Assessment, development and implementation of new separation techniques.
A key element to fulfil this role is the presence of high level scientific and technological knowhow in the group).
To help us achieve these tasks, we are looking for a (m/f):
Scientist
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Guide development of appropriate purification methods for small molecules from the mg to kg scale.
· Analytical and preparative purifications of research compounds to support process development groups.
· Execute achiral and chiral purification of pharmaceutical compounds and isolation of impurities
· Execute small-scale studies and pilot scale purification studies.
· Maintains lab presence and is actively involved in lab work
· Analyze and interpret scientific results.
· Write scientific reports and present work as needed.
· Initiate and champion new technologies (e.g. solvent nanofiltration, biomolecule purification).
· Identify collaboration opportunities with internal and external partners.
· Build and maintain contacts with representatives of equipment and material suppliers.
· Initiate and foster collaboration with external research institutes, companies and universities.
· Keep up-to-date knowledge on purification related technologies.
· Representation of department in cross-functional working groups.
· Supervision of thesis and undergraduate students.
· Carry out your work within the predefined safety, environmental and quality standards.
Desired profile
· PhD or Master's Degree with specialization in (analytical) chemistry/ engineering or related discipline.
· In depth knowledge and technical proficiency in preparative chromatography, HPLC and related techniques.
· Adequate knowledge of organic chemistry
· Experience with chemical process development, scale-up and GMP manufacturing with emphasis on chromatographic purifications.
· Experience with SFC is an asset.
· Experience with biomolecule purification is an asset.
· Experience with organic solvent nanofiltration is an asset.
· Proven problem solving capacity
· You are practical and result-driven.
· You are efficient, flexible and dynamic.
· You integrate and work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
· You have good social and communication skills.
