The department of API Small Molecule Development endeavors to develop chemical processes for drug candidates at all stages of development, including second-generation processes and improvement of existing commercial processes. Due to the recent growth of our development pipeline, we are expanding our in house development group and are currently hiring for a Scientist with experience in Process R&D position, located in Schaffhausen, Switzerland with the opportunity to travel (approx. 5%) mostly within Europe.

Scientist in Chemical Process (m/f)

Your main tasks will include

As a Scientist in Chemical Process you will be part of an international team whose aim is the development of robust chemical processes for therapeutic agents from pre-clinical development to filing and post-approval support. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·  Independently plan, perform and evaluate experiments for route selection
·  Optimize selected route either individually or as part of larger chemistry team to define the process as appropriate for the stage of development of the project
·  Use state-of-the-art technologies, analytical tools and methods to achieve “right-first-time” results (e. g. use of automated lab reactors, PAT tools, DoE techniques)
·  Communicate results effectively to internal and external stakeholders (presentations and reports)
·  Support subsequent plant campaigns for production of development and clinical batches (e. g. by batch witnessing, troubleshooting activities)
·  Eagerly learn all facets of process development through a tailored personal development program

This position offers the possibility to develop either as project leader or into a managerial type role (e. g. people leader).

Desired profile

·  You have a PhD degree in Organic Chemistry or a related subject with 1-2 years of professional experience preferably in a process R&D environment (pharmaceutical or related industry)
·  Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken) and preferably German
·  Ability to work in a team and with remote partners in a matrix environment
·  An up-to-date knowledge of organic synthesis, catalysis and new chemical technologies
·  Proficient and hands-on experience with all key analytical and spectroscopic techniques (e.g. HPLC, NMR)
·  Proven ability to devise innovative solutions to solve complex chemical problems
