Mechanical Design Engineer
Leeds (West Yorkshire) Design/UX/UI
Job description
Mechanical Design Engineer, DePuy Synthes (2 year fixed term contract)
Beeston, Leeds, United Kingdom
DePuy Synthes, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is investing in Research and Development to build our long-term pipeline and maximise the value from our current portfolio of products. We aim to develop and make available innovative disease and care pathways on behalf of the customers and patients we serve.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Commercialised Product Development team at our Leeds Research and Development facility. You will be working alongside other Engineers responsible for delivering a series of Continuous Improvement Projects (CIP's) in support of the WW Global Supply Chain organisation focused on continuous improvement and maximising the value from our existing portfolio of products.
This role would suit an individual looking to further their career as a Mechanical Design Engineer within the Medical Devices sector. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of products in a dynamic, fast paced environment not normally associated with medical device product development, in a role that has a direct impact on the customers and patients that use our products.
Although initially this is a 2 year fixed term contract, it will come with all the great benefits of working for Johnson & Johnson together with a competitive remuneration package.
What you're great at:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will have the ability to think creatively, driving forward the next generation of our products. With a strong engineering focus you will develop solutions that result in safe and effective products that meet both the customer and the business needs. You will have a strong sense of personal responsibility and be able to work both as an individual leader and be a strong team player. You will welcome and even seek out challenging situations as an opportunity to grow, something that will be recognized by the appreciative and rewarding working environment that is DePuy Synthes.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, your typical day may include:
· Participating in the systematic review of function and value analysis
· Transposing own knowledge of manufacturing methods and limitations into cost effective design solutions
· 3D-CAD modelling and draughting in accordance with ISO/ASME standards including the use and understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing & weld specifications.
· Leading discussions relating to design topics and presenting proposed solutions
· Orchestrating and participating in Design FMEA's
· Performing the necessary engineering calculations or simulations that verify detail design and minimise physical testing
What you'll own and how you'll grow:
· You may have responsibility on several projects run concurrently
· You will be responsible for delivering design commitments to agreed timescales in line with project plans
· As you progress in your career there will be opportunities for an increasing level of responsibility and technical leadership
Mark who recently joined the team said “ I was excited to join the company which innovates and cares for patients who need an engineering solution for a biological problem. Specifically the CPD team, as the care doesn't stop with the sale of a product, it continues throughout the lifecycle and continues to develop the best product or device for the task.
What I can say is you will not get bored. There are new tasks every day to challenge you, in a good way! At times I feel like a detective tracing through documents finding the answer, then I'm reviewing the design of a component. It's a very exciting place to work.”
