Position Summary:
Overview of government affairs department
This role will support the Government Affairs Senior Director and Managers implementing the business unit, regulatory and corporate government affairs strategy. You will assist with building strong networks and sustainable relationships with political and policy stakeholders and help position J&J as a key stakeholder in healthcare policy issues of strategic importance to the business.

Main duties and responsibilities:
Internal activities:
• Monitor and interpret key developments in government health, economic, science and innovation policy, identify the opportunities and threats to our business and help develop appropriate plans to influence and engage in health policy development in line with company strategic and commercial objectives
• Work with all levels of Johnson & Johnson to develop and convey corporate policy issues pertinent to the company in the UK/IRL and articulate the company response to those issues
• Develop briefing documents that highlight policy issues around each clinical area of concern to ensure consistent approved messaging when engaging with any external stakeholders
• Communicate regularly and update the J&J Govt Affairs team to share and align activities
External Relationships:
• Assist in the development of effective networks and relationships with key external stakeholders including, but not restricted to politicians, relevant advisers, Think Tanks and patient/advocacy groups
• Identify key policy stakeholders for each clinical priority area and make recommendations on how to engage with these individuals so that they can have a more informed debate about issues, policy gaps/disjoints and opportunities
• Attend from time to time, external events such as meetings, debates, parliamentary receptions (e.g. involving patient groups)
• Help raise the positive profile of J&J to create an understanding of the company's impact on the healthcare environment in the UK
Desired profile
Requirements of the role:
• 2 years of degree level study completed
• A minimum of 2:1 achieved in first year of study
• Understanding of the detail and direction of government policy
Key skills and competencies:
• Understanding of the detail and direction of government policy (healthcare, science and sustainability are an advantage)
• Knowledge of one or more of the following areas is preferable: pharmaceutical or med tech industry policy; trends in life sciences and innovation; health or industrial economics; British & European legislative processes; NHS policy and structures
• High level of verbal and written communication skills in English
• Broad knowledge and awareness of current affairs
