LifeScan is a Johnson & Johnson company. LifeScan Scotland was created in 2001 when Johnson & Johnson acquired the UK assets of Inverness Medical Ltd, a medical device company established in Inverness in 1995 to design and manufacture glucose test strips, and design electronic meters for the global diabetes market.
With a focus on future development, LifeScan is committed to “creating a world without limits for people with diabetes.” Around 1,000 people are employed at the Inverness site, which is regarded as Johnson & Johnson's centre of excellence for diabetes and self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG).
The team at LifeScan Scotland designs all the products in the OneTouch® Brand of blood glucose monitoring systems (meters, test strips, control solutions, lancing devices and diabetes management software). The OneTouch® brand has two product families – Ultra® products, made from carbon technology, and Verio® products, made from precious metals technology. LifeScan Scotland is the primary OneTouch® test strip manufacturer for the global market.
We are currently recruiting for candidates to join our 2 year Graduate Scheme, to be based at our extensive site in Inverness. Roles include:
Customer Quality: Data Systems Graduate
Essential requirements would be a degree in Computer Science, Science/Engineering, or Health-related topic. You would be a self-motivator, have intellectual curiosity with strong problem-solving skills and a knowledge of IT Systems (aggregating data from databases)
In return, we offer experience and knowledge on how customer communications are dealt with by a global company that manufactures over 6 billion strips to derive safety signals and how we react to them. You will gain experience with Global Health Authorities and their regulations for medical devices and also be involved with the design and implementation of a new system to be compliant and allow us to continue marketing our products in Europe
Quality/CSV Engineering Graduate
To be considered for this programme you must have graduated within the last 2 years gaining, at least, a Bachelors with honours degree in a Science, Engineering or Mathematics discipline. You should also have knowledge of either the pharmaceutical, medical devices, engineering, banking or health and safety industries, knowledge of Quality Management System and risk analysis and an understanding of documentation control.
Working in this role you will have the opportunity to build excellent relationships with various departments across the business.
You will also:
· Gain a strong understanding of processes involved in end to end manufacturing
· Learn about Quality Management Systems
· Develop in depth understanding of verification and validation activities as part of the system development lifecycle
· Gain knowledge in risk analysis and documentation control
· Learn how to be a compliance investigator
· Engage and learn about compliance and requirements of J&J validation policies and procedures and the applications
· Learn how to work with minimal supervision as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Controls Engineering Graduate
The ideal candidate for this position will have graduated with either a BEng or MSc in Controls and Automation Engineering. Preferably studies will have encompassed core engineering principles such as electrical engineering, control and instrumentation, microprocessors and programming. The candidate must have a passion for Controls and Automation and a strong ability to self-learn, this is critical given the breadth of the subject combined and the continual advancements in technology. Patience, focus and determination are key qualities the candidate needs to possess. An ideal candidate will also have a history of intellectual curiosity from an early age and a need to understand how things work. Prior work experience, hobbies and interests should be able to demonstrate this.
Regulatory Affairs/Product Stewardship Graduate
This is a joint role between Regulatory Affairs group, which ensures that products meet global regulatory requirements for design development and marketing and Product Stewardship function, which ensures compliance with product-related environmental regulations and standards. For the Regulatory Affairs role, the candidate will support the team to manage global regulatory registrations for blood glucose monitoring systems and will gather regulatory intelligence for global market requirements. For the Product Stewardship role, the candidate will support a wide range of global compliance requirements and will contribute to product sustainability improvements.
The Ideal candidate will have a BSc/ MSc in Science/Lifesciences , with chemistry as a component of their degree. You must have an interest in understanding total product lifecycle and regulation of medical devices. A strong ability for self-learning and the ability to work with novel processes which requires interpretation of complex guidance and information is critical for this role

Requirements of the role:
To be considered for this programme you must have graduated within the last 2 years gaining, at least, a Bachelors with honours degree in a Science, Engineering or Mathematics, in particular the degree disciplines mentioned above
Strong desire to develop and improve existing skills in the following :
· PLC/ microprocessor or computer controlled production equipment
· Vision inspection systems
· HMI, PLC and Vision Programming
· SCADA Systems
· Comprehension of electrical and pneumatic schematics
· Fault finding techniques
· Electrical/ mechanical/ pneumatic system knowledge
· Commissioning and validation
Key skills and competencies (Quality/CSV):
· Knowledge of one of the following regulated industries: pharmaceutical, medical devices, engineering, banking or health and safety
· Knowledge of Quality Management System
· Knowledge of risk analysis
· Understanding the importance of document control
· Interest in organising/ leading validation working parties associated with computer systems, control systems, process and facilities and provide timely validation support to identified stakeholders
· Knowledge of bespoke software and/or hardware build, testing, documentation and deployment as part of software and/ or system development lifecycle
· An awareness on current regulations that must be adhered to, to achieve and maintain compliance
· Willingness to develop as an investigator
