The CNC machining group provides manual machining of components and fixtures for manufacturing operations' automated lines, CNC fabrication of optical inserts (sphere & aspheric designs) and associated components used on multiple injection molding platforms, and suggests design changes and/or recommends improvements in production methods. The Optical Tooling CNC machines and platforms include: Mazak (up to 5 axis-blanks and milling process), Moore 450 (OFDT), Moore 250 (OFDT), Precitech Nanoform 250 (OFDT), Precitech Nanoform X (OFDT), Astigmatic (OFDT).

The CNC Machinist I:

• Has responsibility for fabrication of high quality tight tolerance (+/- 2 microns) and work performance to meet established goals for compliance to all safety requirements, product quality, production efficiency, and on-time delivery
• Actively participates in activities such as safety inspections, procedures, reviews, quality document revisions, 5S, and other continuous improvement initiatives related to the overall success of the department
• Works closely with Optical Tooling, R&D, and Process engineering disciplines on the transfer of new lens/tool designs & CNC programs

Desired profile

• High school degree or equivalent required
• Ability to operate manual and CNC machining independent of technical oversight required
• 1+ years of experience in a CNC machining work environment required
• 2+ years of machining trade or military training in a technical or mechanical discipline and/or equivalent experience within a CNC machining work environment preferred
• Ability to read and interpret multi-paged complex machining product blueprints required
• Knowledge of, and the ability to apply algebraic, geometric functions to blueprint dimensions in the machining of products preferred
• Facilitating and attending training for continuous technical skill development required
• Basic knowledge and familiarity with AutoCad and MasterCam required
• Ability to fabricate parts within +/- 2 micron tolerances required
• Ability to inspect precision machined parts required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required
• Familiarity or ability to measure components using Metrology equipment Zygo (interferometers, VeriFire, VWA) and Taylor-Hobson Talysurf preferred
• CNC programing (G & M code) experience preferred
• Ability to prioritize projects and tasks as well as work in an empowered work team environment required
• Ability to work either night or day shift in support of Continuous Operations required
