The Biologics Research Assay Group at Janssen Research and Development is seeking a Scientist. The Assay Group develops and qualifies assays to evaluate biopharmaceutical candidates and their targets. The incumbent will work within the Department to initiate and support discovery programs in collaboration with partners in Janssen. The successful candidate will likely be involved in multiple programs in multiple therapeutic areas.
The primary responsibility for this position will be to develop and qualify biochemical and cell-based assays for hit discovery, lead optimization, and lead characterization of novel candidate therapeutics, contributing to large molecule characterization; structure function analysis and pharmacological mechanism of action studies. The Scientist will design, develop and implement various in vitro assays including binding, signaling, ADCC, ADCP, CDC, T cell activation and cytokine release and enzymatic activity. The successful candidate will also be expected to make significant technical and strategic contributions to research and discovery programs and will be well organized, able to handle large data sets, and distill and communicate results to therapeutic teams. This position requires a strong ability to develop innovative approaches, and a high degree of interaction with collaborators. Experimental work is an important part of the role and the successful candidate will spend a significant part of his/her time at the bench and demonstrate rigorous data documentation and analysis skills. Additional responsibilities include assay trouble shooting and development of new technology platforms.
QualificationsPhD in biochemistry, cell biology or related field is required5 years or less of related experience and/or training or equivalent is preferredMust be a skilled bench scientist with a strong analytical biochemistry background and demonstrated skills in assay developmentExperience with development of protein therapeutics is preferredInterpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally is requiredExperience with cell based functional assays, tissue culture of immortalized and primary cells, and multi-parametric flow cytometry are required; PBMC isolation, transfection techniques, and protein-protein interaction measurements (ELISA, Western Blotting, Meso Scale Discovery (MSD) technology) are preferredFamiliarity in assay automation, liquid handling, immunofluorescence and immunocytochemistry are preferredThe successful candidate will demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication, well organized, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet strict deadlinesBE VITAL in your career, Be seen for the talent you bring to your work.
