Our Limerick site uses the industry’s most advanced technology and directly employs over 900 people. We produce a diverse array of contact lenses using our highly automated production process. Key to our success has been the combination of state-of-the-art material science with technologies such as precision injection moulding, robotics, vision systems and data analytics.
Vistakon Ireland was established in 1995 in the National Technology Park, close to the University of Limerick. The facility opened with six production lines that manufactured one day disposable contact lens for the European and Japanese markets. Since then we have been on a continuous expansion and improvement path and now have over 36 advanced production lines, manufacturing over 8 million contact lenses a day, which are shipped to customers worldwide.
Our adherence to best practices in continuing professional development (CPD) has resulted in Vistakon being accredited by Engineers Ireland. The accreditation symbolises the company’s commitment to giving all its employees the opportunity for professional development and advancement.
Each year, we work to expand the number of product lines operating on site and to retrofit existing product lines with the latest process engineering technology. As Process Engineer, in a typical day:You will ensure the delivery of high quality, new and innovative products to our customers, in a timely and cost-effective manner.
You will be a core team member in NPI and manufacturing platform development projects, with specific accountabilities for the areas of process design and development.
You will be expected and encouraged to keep up-to-date on the latest process engineering developments and technologies and to proactively bring ‘best practice’ methodologies, procedures, processes and equipment into the organisation. To facilitate you in this, and to ensure the development and maintenance of standards, you will be part of a community within the Vision Care business that includes designers, researchers, developers and manufacturers.
In support of our existing automated platforms, you will lead projects to optimise processes equipment with respect to quality, reliability, capability and capacity.
You will engage with the appropriate personnel in the identification and resolution of corrective/preventative actions that address quality, technical, and manufacturing issues.

You will be responsible for providing technical leadership and have ownership for the following:
- NPI process.
- Identification and implementation of process related continuous improvement activities that increase product quality and growth overall equipment effectiveness.
- Engage with personnel in the identification and resolution of corrective/preventative actions that address quality, technical, and manufacturing issues.
- Perform design, development and installation of equipment, automation transfer systems and processes.
- Project management, planning and co-ordination of multiple projects, within a matrix environment.
- Apply troubleshooting expertise to resolve equipment, systems and process problems using strong statistical and analytical methodologies.
- Communication of findings throughout the organisation.

QualificationsBE VITAL
- What you’re great at:You will have at a minimum a Level 8. B.Sc. or B.Eng. honours degree qualification in Physics/Chemistry/Biological Science or Mechanical/Material/Process Engineering, with a demonstrable track record of delivering results.
