Principle Duties/Responsibilities; The Principle Research Optometrist coordinates, designs, conducts and interprets clinical research studies, essential to further the understanding of contact lens and related products, and complex technical issues. Thoroughly evaluates potential new products to ensure they meet the proposed clinical requirements prior to market introduction. Adheres to environmental policy and procedures and supports department environmental objectives.
Partners with R&D personnel (technical project manager, designers) global marketing, marketing research and regional partners to complete development projects that meet the needs of all stakeholders. Identifies opportunities and stimulates change to drive the achievement of Design R&D and company goals. Communicates reasons for change and effectively leads the change process. Thinks ahead and establishes contingency plans. Negotiates and resolves conflicts. Develops a plan, its risk levels, and benefits. Creates and sustains a learning environment to develop and share skills throughout Applied Optical Products and the organization.
Develops Applied Optical Products R&D initiatives to deliver customer value. Keeps ahead of changing and emerging industry, business, and technical trends to influence Designs R&D to improve products, processes, and services. Identifies and communicates successes across technical, product, and service areas. Challenges and motivates others to achieve their highest potential. Creates leadership growth. Identifies skill sets needed to achieve future business goals. Drives technical and process improvement and influences change.
Recognized as a subject matter expert in Vistakon and Vision Care globally. Provides high-level strategic project direction. Expert in clinical research and study design using appropriate methodology. Acts as a major contributor to projects, or leads key projects. Helps manages junior and senior clinical staff and clinical support staff. Coordinates a broad range of clinical activities both internally and externally. Seeks out new consultants, and builds relationships with external subject matter experts. Communicates data and conclusions using appropriate interpretation and understanding of clinical implications. Initiates and writes technical reports.
QualificationsA minimum of Doctoral Degree in Optometry, with at least 4 years of relevant practice, or Doctoral Degree in Optometry, with a completed residency in Optometry and/or other advanced training (e.g. M.S., PhD), and at least one year of relevant practice is required. Experience in medical device or pharmaceutical industry preferred. Knowledge, understanding, and application of principles, concepts and practices of clinical research is required. Taking a highly collaborative approach and having the ability to work with limited supervision, as well as comfort with direct supervisory responsibilities is required. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) is required.
This position is based in Jacksonville, FL and will require up to 25% Travel.
