This position must be located in Cornelia, GA.Medical Devices (MD) Global Services, L.L.C., represents more than 60 manufacturing sites and 26,000 employees who plan, source, manufacture and deliver high-quality and cost-effective medical products to our customers around the globe each day. Work of the MD Supply Chain supports a multitude of product platforms, new products and delivery systems that are used in a wide range of procedures throughout the healthcare industry, including interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, minimally invasive surgery, hospital sterilization, diabetes management, joint replacement surgery, and vision care.
The Ethicon Plant Engineering Manager provides leadership and direction for process engineering resources and activities. Partners with manufacturing and quality in the identification, definition, and execution of projects and delivers technical requirements for the launch of products as well as continuous improvement of the product's supply chain capabilities. Encourages and supports the identification and development of innovative solutions to problems and opportunities. At this level, the position has a greater degree of impact on the business results and responsibility for managing a group of professionalsThe Plant Engineering Manager will work with Corporate Operations groups and R&D in the development of new products and processes. They will provide day-to-day tactical guidance and manage the associates in the Engineering group in problem identification, root cause analysis and problem resolution matters. Provides strategic direction with regards to validation, process control procedures, and lean manufacturing processes. Coordinates continuous improvement and productivity improvement activities. Provides strategic direction with regards to technology roadmap and process innovation. Develops multi-year technology readiness and development plans to deliver a steady pipeline of transformational engineering projects. Prepares, discusses, documents, sets goals and measures the above activities. Accountable for site capital forecasting and variances. Demonstrates a high degree of initiative and is proactive in the resolution of unusual processing problems, and exercises good planning to accomplish department and Company goals. Keeps Plant Manager well informed of all major problems, improvement activities and potential barriers. Interfaces directly with other site Business Unit Managers/Program Managers to ensure that manufacturing operations and projects receive effective technical support. Interface with Corporate-functional groups to ensure that the facility's goals, objectives and requirements are met including project schedules, product/process requirements, and GMP/ISO compliance. Able to effectively manage multi-craft maintenance workforce to provide maintenance for all manufacturing and facility equipment. Able to manage a multi-talented engineering workforce, both exempt and wage, and provide personal development to direct report leaders and engineers as required. Responsible for technical development of all site Engineering staff. Able to develop and deliver oral and written communications around design & plan layouts for facilities and manufacturing processes and other related projects relating to key operations objectives. Knowledge of plant-related cost drivers. Represents Ethicon, Inc. during internal, J&J Corporate, FDA, and notified body audits of the validation, maintenance, and calibration processes. Enforces, promotes and observes all Safety, Industrial Hygiene rules and regulations established by the Company within the facility. Participates in the deployment of Safety policies. Ensures department safety programs are implemented and maintained to meet corporate goals. Develop associates through objectives setting, performance reviews, and development planning. Develop, monitor and effectively utilize dashboards, control charts and operational indicators and take action to correct those situations, which are not in-line with established controls or targets. Develop standard policies and processes governing engineering practices. Create technical documentation as necessary. Manage department budget, both capital and expense. Resolve manufacturing-related process and product issues identified by product complaints or other means. Apply statistical methods and data analysis. Initiate and manage large capital appropriations. Create a compelling work environment in which every associate is valued and recognized for their contribution to our success.
The Plant Engineering Manager will also work in a team environment behaving in a CREDO-based respectful manner. Comply with all federally regulated programs. Comply with quality system requirements as defined within procedures and instructions. Utilize applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.g. ComplianceWire, ADAPTIV, etc.). Support LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives. Support DIR and Robust Process Initiatives. Support FPX Initiatives. Support Manufacturing Equipment Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care. Accurately complete records as defined within the job procedures (e.g. manual and/or electronic documentation). Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor. Consistently meet required Training due date targets. Manages performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies. Provide input to the real-estate management of Cornelia campus. Provides guidance regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and facility. Ensure safe working conditions and practices in the department. Support Plant Diversity Process.
QualificationsThis role requires a BS in engineering or technical field. An advanced degree is desirable. A minimum of 10 years engineering or manufacturing experience is required. A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience is required. Experience in medical device manufacturing or pharmaceutical manufacturing is required. Experience in polymer processing is preferred. Basic or advanced computer skills is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills is required. Statistical and analytical problem solving is required. Knowledge of lean manufacturing processes and systems is preferred. Six Sigma Certification and/or Lean Manufacturing Certification is preferred; Black Belt desirable. Proven project management skills is required. PMP certification a plus. This position is located in Cornelia, GA and may require up to 10% travel.
